Some Australian-based bands including Pseudo Echo and The Angels have gotten special permission from Immigration NZ to play here in January, so that's the start of something. Sacred Reich/Vio-lence is also rescheduled to October 2021.

I'm really hoping for a Saturday GnR show in Melbourne or Sydney. Just bought Midnight Oil tickets, which is exciting.
...aaand those bands were forced to cancel their trip, which is kinda stupid and not stupid at the same time. You'd think the special permission would mean some sort of quarantine arrangement, avoiding contact with locals almost entirely or something, but I guess it didn't.
Different members of each band have come from different hotspot areas of the country. The Angles had to cancel their own tour here despite seeral of their members not being in hotspots. The Brewsters were not allowed into Tassie because Adelaide had a scare 6 weeks ago. Bands like Harlott, In Malice's Wake and Desecrator are playing sit down and eat buffet type shows here but even those bands have members from multiple hotspots/lockdown areas so touring them beyond their own cites is not on. It's not a case of just isolating the bands from the crowds there is so many contact possibilities that there is no way New Zealand would risk getting a handful of band members and crews of more than 100 over the ditch when our hit rates are into the hundreds. We stupidly let international cricketers, dignitaries, armed forces, tennis players and other arrivals into this country who bring new strains of the virus with them. New Zealand is right to tell us to fuck off.
Yeah, so we were stupid to give the permission in the first place. I'm curious as to whether the band members would've been willing to quarantine for 2 weeks like everyone else who comes into NZ. It'd be wishful thinking to imagine our government funding that just for some bands though.
I don't know about silly because when those gigs were first announced Adelaide had something like 100 days of zero community transmission. Then someone from hotel quarantine got listed as having the new UK strain and Adelaide went into hard lockdown. Once they realised the main case they were looking at actually lied about where they had been to hide the fact he was working 'off the books' in a pizza restaurant and therefore it wasn't the UK strain it was too late, they had community cases and borders got locked down to them. Looking at that on paper letting bands make use of the "bubble" our governments created did make sense, but closing it at what appeared to be a serious case of mass community transmission was also right. At the time that bubble still remained open to some states of Australia, including Victoria which had gone through three months of hard lock down and come out the other side, but with the Brewsters being from Adelaide and them being the headline band it was pretty much a dead deal. They would have had to quarantine in another state for two weeks before they left. I imagine now that bubble has also closed to New South Wales, Victoria and Queensland since all three have had outbreaks. I believe going by the schedule (here and there) that the bands did have some type of quarantine at either end of the tour but what that actually entailed in New Zealand I don't know, here they were required to home quarantine on return.
I figured they probably weren't scheduled to quarantine for 2 weeks here, because if they did then surely they'd be COVID-free and ready to play.
Yeah I don't know how your end works. Brewsters cancelled their Tasmania shows because they had to quarantine in and out of the state. But the stupid thing is we've let so many people into this country, some who have tested positive, without quarantine because of who they are. In this country The Angels might have royalty status but it's apparently not enough to give them exemption. Hoodoo Gurus, Screaming Jets and someone else had a few gigs lined up along the east coast in the next few weeks, they've been cancelled too. Because of our stupid border rules, where shutting down borders and banning Australian's from crossing an imaginary line, is a new past time of State Premiers many bands struggle to even be in the same room as a group, let alone playing gigs.
