No, there will be no replacement for the Joker in the Nolan reboot series. And anyway, as Michael Caine said, "who could follow that? Who would WANT to follow that?"

As for the villain in the next one... I'm pretty sure Two-Face is dead (btw I thought his second face was absolutely horrifying and believable, except for the fact that his left eye was still working which is the only sketchy thing in the whole movie) because they had a funeral for him and stuff. Personally I'm hoping the Nolan brothers put their heads together and write a new villain. These films are absolutely on par with the best of the comics, and if someone can introduce a character in the 60s (20 years after Batman was first published), why not here and now? I mean, Chris Nolan's made, what, 5 films? And they've all been absolutely spectacular? At least half of his entire career is on the IMDB top 250. Batman is in good hands.

I preferred Maggie Gyllenhaal to Katie Holmes by a longshot. Chrsitian Bale was awesome as usual, though his spotlight was of course stolen. I hear Bale is starting a death metal band? Even Gary Oldman, whose character simply had nothing wrong with him (no tragic loneliness, no madness or sadism) stood up to the theatrics of Ledger, Eckhart (who was also amazing) and Bale's characters with the subtlety of a master.

Ledger's performance was perfect. It doesn't hurt that he was also one of the best written villains of all time, but plenty of the lines ("Madness is like gravity, all it takes is one push") were improvised on set. The question is, will he be nominated for Best Actor, or Best Supporting Actor?

id have to say "best actor." IMO bale, ekhart, and ledger were all supporting actors. their role's were pretty split up evenly.

BTW, i give it 1 more day until samsara shuts down this thread. its a shame we cant discuss books and movies on this thread, theres alot of members who have alot to share on these topics.

One could argue that there's been music-related discussion, though.

I wanted to start a Dark Knight discussion post last night after I saw it but didn't because it's really not music related.

I loved the film. Ledger's Joker was terrifying, Harvey Dent made me a believer (I want one of those buttons) and I loved Gary Oldman as Gordon, his role was truly the heart in the film.

I remember how good I felt after I saw Batman Begins. How I felt that someone FINALLY did the Batman story right. No cartoonish greyscale scenery, no dayglo or mock goth costumes, no tim burton, no bat-nipples and no Prince! Just great actors, great production, great direction and a great story.

Multiply that about tenfold and you'll have an idea of how I felt after seeing The Dark Knight...

I kind of hope they bring back the Riddler. I doubt they will, though, since Jim Carrey (who I can't stand) did a pretty good job as him.

best "comic" movie i have ever seen. so much more real than batman begins (which i loved). saw it at imax and it just looked sooo good. ledger was amazing, the storyline was very very strong, only two things. if i had to pick a few things i didn't like it would be...
1.the scarecrow was a little bit of a waste, getting rid of him that quickly, i would've liked to see him die at the hands of the joker in the first half of the film.
    2. The Dawes character was under-developed, but i understand why she was necessary.

the pencil trick was so fucking good.

A seriously awesome movie period. It's worth going to see just to see Ledger play the joker. He's one of the best villains ever. If not THE best :D

I'm already calling that the next movie will be about The Penguin. Anyone else notice the mob guy holding the cane?

^Nolan has already ruled out the Penguin saying he is too unrealistic and wouldn't suit the more realistic series he is creating.

yeah the penguin is too campy
I think if the Riddler was given the right working, he would fit. Take away the green pyjamas, and give him the same treatment the joker was given, take away the ridiculous nature of the old versions and make him more of a twisted psychopath. Of course instead of ugly and obscene like the joker, make him attractive yet seclusive. I think the compulsive nature to always leave riddles could be utilised well to add a new dimension to the next film.

oh and btw TDK literally stomped my ass flat

LITERALLY? How did it manage that? Did someone dressed as batman stomp on your ass until it was flat?

I dont know why Nolan says the Penguin is unrealistic. Tim Burton made him a mutant in Batman Returns but thats not how he's portrayed in some comic versions (there are some that portray him as a mutant). He's essentially a short, stubby guy thats an arms dealer. Imo he can work well as a secondary character, maybe like Scarecrow.

Are you sure? I heard that too, but it was some fan as a "man on the street" from MTV's presence at some midnight showing. I don't think it's "in talks".

I think that since the female lead role was eliminated (and Rachel Dawes was an invention of Nolan's anyway - she doesn't exist in the comics!) we might see Catwoman in the next one.

Some ppl thought that we would get a cliff hanger not unlike the one from Begins with the Joker this time with Selina Kyle. Something like Alfred telling Bruce that his date would be Selina Kyle or something. Also, who thought Anthony Michael Hall was going to play someone worth mentioning?

I don't think a female burglar in a cat suit would fit very well in this new series that is incredibly dark and always has villains aiming for mass murder. Especially after that horrible Halle Berry movie made it so everyone associates catwoman with "lol flop."

There was a Catwoman reference though. Anyone catch that?
