I've met Warrel only once in my life - last year on the DHIADW tour. I can't tell much about him besides the impact he had on me and greates memories connected to his music. But i know a lot of you knew him very well and can share some memorable things. Post them down below, let's honor his life and who he was
REST IN PEACE WARREL, WE'LL MEET AGAIN!

The last time Nevermore played in Philly, Warrel, being a bit of a foodie, wanted to try both Pats and Genos steaks, two restaurants that are historically sort of rivals and are super famous as a result.

So here I am after the show with few other Neverboarders sitting next to one of my favorite singers, who has two gigantic cheesesteaks in front of him. He chose Genos as the best (no ones perfect).

Honestly though my best memories are of how he encouraged the community on this board. Dude didn't just allow our silly antics and unrelated discussions, he actively participated in them. And even though this forum isn't as active as it was 10 years ago, the community that was built then still largely exists.

Broken image link. I think this is a sign; the forum will not allow your food post.

I was born and raised and have always lived in Seattle. I loved Nevermore before I ever knew they were also from this area. Eventually I started hosting a metal radio show here and through that got know Warrel and Jim and everyone really well. Warrel was a frequent guest on our show and he and Jim would always cook up something delicious to bring and share with us. They were both chefs and made amazing food. One time they came up with some pot brownies and chocolate coffee ice cream. We had "dessert" before the show and it was one for the ages. We'd frequent the same watering holes and just shoot the shit about anything at all for hours on end.

I was also playing in bands at the time, and my first real band had a rehearsal space right next to Nevermore's.(LITTLE MARK!!!!!). This was actually a bit before all the radio show stuff. They would come listen to us practice and eventually put us on some bills with them.

Through all of that we just became good friends over the years. He was a good man and I am really going to miss him. From fan to friend, it seems like he affected all of us in that sort of way. How many other singers are so cool and involved with their fans to the extent he was? I always expected to run into him again and someday and talk to him again. This is really hard :(

I first saw Nevermore and met WD at Gigantour 2005 in Fort Wayne. Nearly missed their set while waiting in line to meet Symphony X. I had been listening to them for a couple of years already at that point, and This Godless Endeavor was quickly elevating the band to my favorite status. This meeting didn't matter as much as the next one.

I had only been on this forum for a few months when I went to see Nevermore for the second time, opening for In Flames in 2006. My then-girlfriend and I were standing off to the side, not in any particularly visible spot... but when WD was onstage, he pointed right at us. I was baffled. He could already pick me out in a dark room, full of mostly a bunch of other long-haired white dudes? Was this guy real? As I found out later, WD had a knack for spotting forumers - something that could only arise from spending a hell of a lot of time here, as did we all.

We met up with him a little later, while In Flames was onstage, and together the three of us stood and watched them play songs from their new album, Come Clarity. For that reason alone, those songs will always mean a lot to me, even though they're pretty bad for IF. After the show, he invited us around back. We waited a while with some other fans, when suddenly, he stuck his head out of the bus door, looked around, and spotted us again. He poked two fingers at my girlfriend and I, and waved us in.

We chilled for about five to ten minutes with Nevermore, just standing there uncertain of what to do or say. WD started talking about doing a guest voice on Metalocalypse, and mentioned he had the first episode if we wanted to watch it. About that time, I got a text from another friend who had accompanied us; our ride was getting shitty about not being invited onto the bus, and was threatening to leave without us. Not wanting to be stranded in Cincinnatti, we had to leave. I still hate that motherfucker to this day for not letting this story end with watching Metalocalypse before its premier with the members of Nevermore.

There are other stories too, more than I initially realized, but rather than write a novel on my own, I'll let others share first.

Too many to share. Years and years of my life were shaped to an extent by Warrel and Nevermore. Experiences, relationships, overall lifestyle.

Recently I'd been thinking about getting back on Facebook just because there are people with whom I have no other line of communication, and, for whatever reason, Warrel was the main one who came to mind.

As i posted in my other thread ....

Today i lost one of the biggest musical influences in my life. A man that befriended me even though we had our differences. The lyrical genius that is and always will be Warrel Dane. As a young child I remember hearing Sancutary and the voice that came through those speakers inspired me to be come a singer. The combination of the thought provoking lyrical themes and his ability to go from screeching highs to growly gutteral "Het" inspired vocals opened me up to an entire new world.

His work with Nevermore inspired me even further with their dark imagery and prog/thrash inspired sound. His solo record Praises To The War Machine was amazing and also inspiring. He covered one of our favorite songs on that record. Lucretia My Reflection from Sisters Of Mercy. The song Brother spoke to me and many a night we talked about those lyrics and the situations that inspired them, many times just crying for hours on the phone. We got to see each other here in Vegas on the tour cycle for that record. He played the Cheyenne Saloon, and I also got to meet Jonny, Atilla, and Dagna at that show. We went to gt some food before the show and I introduced him to some of the most amazing Italian Food he said he had ever eaten. He was such an amazing person. We had some good laughs that night, and seeing Jim as the "Merch Guy" was too funny. We stayed connected on Facebook after that.

A few years later I remember him telling me him and Lenny were writing together again and they had plans to release a new Sancutary record. I was so excited to hear his enthusiasm and when The Year The Sun Died hit it was nothing short of spectacular.

Warrel, you were my friend despite our difference of opinions when it came to politics, the world, and life, especially here on the forum. I loved you like a brother, and I will always remember you. Thank you for inspiring me musically, lyrically and being a part of my life. I will never forget you.

    I love you my BROTHER
    Jason

Will and WD had a great relationship. If it wasnt for Will I never would have met him and became friends. Will introduced me to the forum and from there everything developed.

I wonder what ever happened to that recipe thread where we all posted recipes of our favorite dishes to make.....

I remember meeting WD after their show at the Biebob. For some reason he was wearing some ridiculous chicken comb hat. We had some beers and I generally made a stuttering fool of myself because I finally met a guy I'd been looking up to for so many years. Just... shit, man.

All I can say is I'm thankful for the memories he gave us all, both musically and personally. The albums, the quiet listening, the drunk headbanging. The photoshopped porn thread, the general idiocy... The music world has become much poorer today.
