Hey guys, my band's new single is out! Guitars and bass were tracked by me using the Axe FX. Drums, vocals and strings were recorded by Nolly of Periphery at Moles studios in Bath, England. The mix + master was also done by Nolly. Have a listen, and if you like it, please visit Karybdis at https://www.facebook.com/Karybdis.band.

For all you producers out there, this track is also part of a mix competition. This will be a nice challenge - with real violins and cellos in addition to the usual metal band's instruments. Some cool prizes sponsored by DC shoes as well! Link to the competition at: https://www.facebook.com/events/165923380280621/

    Good luck, and have fun!

Haha, I've already entered the event. Gonna try this out next week when my own Axe-Fx 2 hopefully arrives! This actually seems like a legit competition also, have seen some half-assed competitions from bands not turning out that great.

This is sick! I'm gonna start working on it right now. Can we use this in our studio portfolios as long as we list credits where credits are due? (ex. your band, Nolly etc)

Hey dude. I'm not sure Nolly and Moles Studios will be too happy with that, since the most of the recording was done in their studios. You could certainly use it on your personal portfolio if you win (crediting us, Nolly, Moles etc).

Logic users - tempo info is embedded into the audio files and can be extracted easily. For other DAW users, a midi track has been added so you can get the tempo from there.

Thats an excellent mix, Michael...very punchy. A couple of the stems weren't lined up in the original file so some of the guitar fills are not in time. You may want to pick up the DI's from our site so you can use your own tones if you like.

    Cheers,

    Harsha

Thanks a lot! Glad you like it, I´m pretty happy with it myself also.
Yeah I noticed that it some weird timing issues on the guitar. I just tried ty mask it haha.. Don´t think I gonna have time to do another mix with the DI´s also. But thanks for the feedback! :)

    I love your mix, man!

I don't think participating in the competition because I'm still a newbie. By that I would want to ask you some tip on how I must mix the cymbals to sound more or less like yours. Mine are too harsh and out. I tried with several eq's, compression, reverbs, gates... but I don't approached in the right way. Sorry if I've been somewhat indiscreet ;)

Thanks a lot! Happy to hear that :)

Well it´s no secret how to do it. Just som small EQ adjustments in the right place. Did use parallellcomp a lot on the drums in this mix. But I usually do haha.

    Great track.
    Thanks for uploading.
Only had time for re-amps and a static mix.
I will try to get this finished this week some time.

As I said earlier, I'm not going to enter the competition because I think I'm too newbie, but would be very grateful to you to give me your opinion. Amazing song, I really enjoyed mixing it, I love the strings part.

Not bothered about any competition, just nice to see some real drums on here!
Instrumentally interesting enough, so I've left out the vocals in this one (No offense intended!)
Got a bit of Mellotron going on in the Solo also...

    Enjoy

Hello! Here's my mix from this great song! Posting it simply for fun. Since mixing it was too :)

I have to say these are some of the best quality drum tracks anybody has shared in the big wide internet. The guy who tracked them (and the other guy who played them :D) definitely knew what they were doing. I just love these kind of snare sounds (no EQ whatsoever on the snare in my mix by the way). Since some of the room tracks were compressed and some others not, one could very easily create different drums sounds by simply balancing them differently.

Same thing could be said about the strings; we've heard enough of those software strings.

This mix is one the few of mine which got over 10 dBs of (SSL style) bus compression.

EDIT: My mix ended up being a tad dull so I remastered it:
