Well, he did say it wouldn't appeal to everyone here (which is pretty much any band announcement).

I do think some people are setting the bar a little too high though. He said it effected the upper portion of the roster, not that we're getting a band that could headline PP outright.

IMO, Magnum would be headliner material, plus don't those guys live in the UK? My guess is that the appearance is going to be made by a solo artist/band that doesn't have to travel overseas to play PP.

Just a stab in the dark like so many other posts. I figured possibly my guess was a bit more realistic. No harm no foul.

    from wiki:
Magnum are a British Progressive Rock band from Birmingham, England. Formed as a four piece by Tony Clarkin (guitar), Bob Catley (vocals), Kex Gorin (drums) and Bob Doyle (bass) in order to appear as the resident band at The Rum Runner night club Birmingham. Magnum have undergone several changes in personnel over the years; however, the core of vocalist Bob Catley and guitarist/songwriter Tony Clarkin remain today.

Magnum's most notable success during their early years was Chase The Dragon in 1982, which reached #17 in the UK, and included several songs that would be mainstays of the band's live set, notably "Soldier Of The Line," "Sacred Hour" and "The Spirit".

Their breakthrough album came in 1985 with the Gold Certified album[1] On A Storyteller's Night which featured the single "Just Like An Arrow". This success continued in the following years with the Roger Taylor produced Vigilante in 1986, the Top 5, Silver Certified album[1] Wings Of Heaven in 1988, which featured three Top 40 singles, and the Keith Olsen produced Goodnight L.A. reaching #9 in the UK album charts in 1990.

In 1995 Tony Clarkin announced Magnum's split, and later forming another band, Hard Rain. Magnum would eventually reform in 2001, their most recent album The Visitation was released in January 2011.

Either Shining (nor) or Grand Magus. My guess.

I haven't heard any of Magnum's material yet (don't hurt me plz!), but Bob Catley was fantastic when I saw him live last month. Great voice, great stage presence.

Would Riverside be considered headliner-status/too big for the criteria at this point? I just remembered that they're doing a 10th anniversary tour in Europe this spring - maybe they'll do something like SLS in its entirety at PPUSA. Though I'm not sure how they'd draw outside the audience already going, unless prog rock fans are a more veritable force than I'm giving them credit for...

    Norwegian!Shining would RULE.

Personally, it doesn't really matter to me who it is. Knowing Glenn, I'm sure it'll be entertaining.

After putting a lot of thought into it..I think the mystery band is James Labrie.

1.) His U.S. tour was cancelled, making this exclusive
2.) Labrie would appeal to people outside this forum
3.) Labrie isn't big enough to headline, but he is well known enough to affect the upper part of the roster.
4.) Some people on the forum will love it (including me!)
5.) some people will hate it
    6. Some people will be indifferent

So what does everyone else think??

I would love for it to be LaBrie, but I think his asking price would be way too high for this particular instance. I think if he were ever booked it would have to be for a headline slot. He's got enough solo, MullMuzzler material to warrant that.

I've never heard Magnum either. But Prog rock is not necessarily outside the box for this forum...

I highly doubt it would be Shining. Not a good fit, plus last time they tried to make it to the states they got denied.

However, Grand Magus fits pretty much all of the criteria. The only question is if their price is too high due to coming from Sweden and all.
