I really like old progressive rock... Am I the only one? Many of my friends who listen to power or black metal don't like it because it's "too soft..." Maybe it's the same at this forum... If you haven't listened to much of it, I suggest listening to Focus, Rush, Yes, Emerson Lake and Palmer, early Genesis (Before Peter Gabriel left,) King Crimson, Dixie Dreggs and Renaissance.

    What about Jethro Tull?

Seriously, I've only heard Catfish Rising from them, but based on that album alone, they rock. :D

Like a lot of old progressive, althoug I don't hear much (prefer to hear the newer stuff), but listen to marillion, pendragon, Pink floyd, rush too. Digging now into styx (havent heard much though, seems much like pop prog) and genesis and yes.

oops, forgot Spocks beard and jadis.

Emerson, Lake and Palmer are the my favorite progressive group, but i like others such as: Jethro Tull, King Crimson and YES. I believe those groups were much better than heavy metal bands, also they were the first one that mixed classical music with rock.

If it wasn't for these old bands, I don't think I would be listening to heavy music at all. My dad listened to those bands and got me (sub-consciously) into it. It's in my blood!

You're missing out if you don't listen to ZAPPA!

Rush, Genesis, Yes, The Doors and Zepplin still get plenty of time in my players.

I haven't heard that much old prog. Its wasn't in my time (or my parents) and I've been to buissy getting new-prog. But I'm open-minded and I have allways meant to look into it.

Kansas - "Leftoverture" is a good one to start with IMO. There are obvious influeneces you'll notice in Mike Romeo's writing from this great 70's Prog band.

Mr Shred-Ididle: I think you should begin with groups from England... In fact Kansas are great but not as great as Emerson, Lake and Palmer or YES.

Two suggestions: ELP "Tarkus" and YES "Fragile"

I used to really be into old prog (even before I was into metal) but in recent years my taste has dwindled. I still like the old Rush stuff tho, and older Genesis.
