Can anyone recommend some towns which are worth getting off the main highway for? Every now and then I'll swing off the Hume or something and be surprised that a hidden gem was sitting there largely unvisited by people on long drives.

Can't say I've been to many places off the beaten track in Aussie. I've stayed in Narooma (where you'd tend to go to get away from things rather than find them). Only stopped briefly in Goulburn on the way back from Canberra. Looks like most of the little towns have their thing though, lots of museums and whatnot.

I did do the tour of the Lucas Heights nuclear reactor which you have to book in advance. You can't take photos, but it was cool!

Hey wearers of earplugs, what do you wear to gigs? I think I lost one of my Hearos, so I need to buy something else.

Also, I'm taking my 7yo to see Alice Cooper. What's the best thing to get for a kid that age?

Winmar, you might not want to read this for your own sanity :)

If anyone was undecided for Alice Cooper, tickets are now half price on LastTix ($79.90).

Haha as luck would have it, I offloaded the tickets I had for Melbourne and have bought some at that price for Canberra!

When I was a kid my Dad took us to motorbike races and just gave us the cheap cylindrical ones that you squish and put in. Can't really speak for how the music would sound, but better than not being there I'm sure!

Your dad was responsible! Give him a high five.

I ended up going to a music shop on the weekend and getting some Hearos for both of us. They did the trick.

I thought I might give Load by Metallica a go with fresh adult ears and all that. 3 songs in and I'm finding it really boring. I'm switching to something else now. Should I persevere later?

I really enjoy Load and ReLoad 21/20yrs after I bought them... a somewhat outspoken opinion even these days. I still hate St Anger though.

Load has a few alright songs, but only The Outlaw Torn really gets my attention. Reload is a favourite though - almost everything on it other than the singles is gold to me. The Black Album was the one I liked to hate on, at least until Hardwired came along.

I never got the hate for black album either. I was only 12 when it came out though, so hadn't grown up with the classics but it was the one that got me into them, then I went and got the rest.

There's some good songs on Hardwired. I can't listen to Death Magnetic much though due to the abysmal mastering because there's a few on that I like as well :/

Black was the last somewhat listenable album imo. Even that one is uneven as fuck.
