Yea no joke. The good ones start at $300.
I'm not buying 1000 year old antiques if thats what you are asking. But there are a lot of historically accurate, fully functional replicas out there.
Links for viking swords please, Max.
This is the one I just got, which is kind of a early viking/germanic sword.
This one is fucking gorgeous, a bit more expensive. I don't own it, but I'm thinking about it. The main criticism is that the hilt is too short, which is fine because I have baby hands.
You can find these windlass steelcraft swords on other sites at better prices, I just like MR's layout. I usually look there then search elsewhere for those swords by item #.
For instance.... same sword, $130 less.
Strawberry roan I suppose sorta, he's a mutt. I'm not entirely sure of his lineage as he was a rescue.
haha, well doi. So not the $50 cheapos, but the real, quality steel properly made actual fighting swords.
Exactly. I only have the one above from Windlass Steelcrafts, which seems to be a good entry level company for real swords.
I started reading about swords from Albion and had a sword boner that almost ripped out of my pants. These things run $1,000 - $2,000... they're fuckin works of art. I could never afford one, but I can dream.
A couple years ago I was extremely close to buying an Albion.
Max, have you seen these guys?
If I had money I'd buy their shit
I'm really not a fan of fantasy swords, tbh. Call me traditional, but nothing better than the swords of old.
I'm probably going to get my next one with next months first paycheck. Thinking one of these two:
The Windlass German Bastard sword is cheaper, and frankly a little more Max sized (i.e. shorter blade length), but the Tinker Longsword is gorgeous in its simplicity and REALLY well reviewed across the intarwebs.
Here's a vid of a glorious dude chopping plastic bottles with it to bagpipes playing amazing grace
Max, if you are really serious about swords and blades and money isn't much of an issue, you need to check out the sword and knife makers where I live. They've been doing it for about 600 years here in Maniago, and they made the swords for a bunch of movies including LOTR. They make replicas as well but also real blades of just about any kind. They're expensive, but it's hand-crafted work.
Like I said, they're not sharpened and are mainly used for decoration, but the knives here are very much real and all hand-made. Maniago's called the City of Knives.
Yeah, I've seen some Del Tin swords online that look really nice. Kultofathena.com has some. KOA will sharpen them for customers, too. I like this one a lot:
Seems like a step up from the windlass entry swords, but not as expensive as albion. Definitely worth considering.
Check out my new cat
Holy shit that Del Tin is expensive! They're like 300 here.
Yeh, and I think KOA is the only site that imports them to the US.
No shit, you could probably fly here in the winter, pick one up and have them ship it home for you, and then fly back the next day and it may be cheaper.
MR's weekend deal, $158 sharpened, that's almost half off. Thinking about it.
post your sexy weapon pics here.
Just got this beauty tonight.
Already slew a foolish Diet Coke bottle that dared to oppose me.
