Wow, talk about a kick in the gut on a saturday afternoon. Just saw this posted on several website.

This was translated from a site that reported it.

One of the biggest names in Brazilian heavy metal died on Saturday. André Matos, 47, who went through the bands Viper, Angra and Shaman, in addition to solo career, died of causes not yet revealed.

The death was confirmed in social networks by former bandmates such as drummer Ricardo Confessori and bassist Luis Mariutti, who shared the stage with André Mattos in the bands Angra and Shaman.

"Fate has united us, separated us, reunited us and now preached more with us. It is with deep sorrow in our hearts that we bid farewell to Andre once more, this time in a definitive way. even knowing that we spend glorious moments with our companion and friend, there will always be the best of it in our hearts, "says the note signed by Hugo Mariutti, Luis Mariutti, Ricardo Confessori, Fábio Ribeiro and Rick Dallal

    Career

André Matos is considered one of the pioneers of style in Brazilian music. At the age of 13, she joined the band Viper and was the voice responsible for the album Theater of Fate, which had the hit Living For The Night. In Angra, André Matos was at the forefront of the group's first three albums: Angels Cry, Holy Land and Fireworks, leaving to set up the Shaman alongside Luis Mariutti and Ricardo Confessori. In 2006, he left the band to pursue a solo career.

Last year, there was a new Shaman meeting on tour with Arch Enemy. The presentation passed through Manaus in November, at the Teatro Manauara, in the last coming of André Matos to Manaus.

Wow. I was just listening to Viper earlier today so this is freaky to say the least. Such an amazing singer with a great catalog of music between all the bands he was involved in over the years. His debut solo album Time To Be Free was criminally underrated for anyone that never gave it a chance or just hasn’t heard it. He just appeared on stage with Avantasia five days ago too....condolences and thoughts are with all his friends and family.

One of the greats in our little niche of the musical world. Sad. He will be deeply missed.
