I think as a user, satan is like black metal as individuality, or their values, they have nothing to do with burning churches worship an idol blasphemous.

    yeah
i totally agree with you here, (being a person who has actually read all the bible passages mentioning Lucifer) but our view won't go over really well in any kind of official church setting
especially here in the bible belt where Satan is mentioned in every fucking sermon, the way the actual bible describes Lucifer is no where near the same as the way christian preachers decribe Satan

    There's no Satan. No evidence.
If there is a God and it's omnipotent, satan must be its errand boy.
(Religion is a scam derived from the existential crisis of man.)

    Satan doesn't exist
because the concept of Satan doesn't really work with out the concept of a nice-guy-counterpart
Satan is clearly an AC created for the purpose of explaining why evil people do evil things and also Satan (as ruler of hell) is used keep people following the rules in Leviticus

Me personally, only thing satan is to me is an emblem of evil and darkness that I happen to find entertaining and cool to write and ponder about. I have an inverted cross above my bedroom dresser that greets me every time I go to play my instruments.

The archetype of Satan, or the Devil, was a deification of early humanity's fear of being their own god. Personal accountability and responsibility are things that the bulk of humanity runs away from. Who better to run from than the Devil; who better to run to than God.

    exactly
humanity in general has such a feer of the un-known, that we, as a species are willing to believe in the un-believe-able

the rules in Leviticus allow people to give up thought about how to live their lives, they have specific rules instead of developing their own sense or right-and-wrong

faithfully following the rules set out by other people is just laziness, too lazy to form your own ideas of how you should and shouldn't live your life

the Judeo-Christian concepts of "heaven and hell" are used to keep people following "the rules" where the "laws" in Leviticus Exodus Deutoronomy are merely a listing of things people would instinctively do, and then the instruction "don't do these things"

    also
the concepts of heaven and hell are also used to allieviate people's "fear of death"
when someone you love has died, you want to believe that the afterlife is fun for them, when you become mortally wounded, or diagnosed as terminal or realize that you've been alive longer than most of the people in your community, you panic, the fear of the unknown makes you believe in heaven, you believe that your going to heaven to alieviate the fear of your own mortality

the concept of hell allows nice people to deal with the existence of evil people

when a serial killer or a serial rapist dies, the idea that this person is "going to burn in hell" helps with coping with the traumatizing effect of what they have done

Oh God not this again. Desperate (neo)liberal spin on a myth.
Tell us all about personal accountability and responsibility why don't you. Tell us all we need to read Ayn Rand's Atlas Shrugged.

Even better - prove your claim.
    Good God.
    Love Nietzsche much?

what i said (in my last few posts) explains the "existence" of "Satan" so much better than "fear of being your own God"
which btw doesn't even make sense

    The hell it is!
Thinking that just shows how damaged you are.
Fascist far-right ignorant asshole = Paul Ryan

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paul_Ryan
At a 2005 Washington, D.C. gathering celebrating the 100th anniversary of Ayn Rand's birth, Ryan credited Rand as inspiring him to get involved in public service. In a speech that same year at the Atlas Society, he said he grew up reading Rand, and that her books taught him about his value system and beliefs. Ryan required staffers and interns in his congressional office to read Rand and gave copies of her novel Atlas Shrugged as gifts to his staff for Christmas. In his Atlas Society speech, he also described Social Security as a "socialist-based system".

    http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10000872396390444233104577595400789196454.html
Now the Republican vice-presidential candidate, Mr. Ryan is a practicing Catholic who attends church regularly, takes part in a weekly prayer group on Capitol Hill and flies home on Thursday nights so he can take his children to their Catholic school the next morning. And when he debates Vice President Joe Biden this fall, each party will be represented by a practicing Catholic.

Paul Ryan Suddenly Does Not Embrace Ayn Rand's Teachings

    http://www.dailykos.com/story/2012/...d-the-Political-Contradiction-of-Christianity
That brings into play a number of questions. Chief among them - how does a person's core guiding principle change so quickly and without an apparent traumatic experience? Why are Rand supporters overjoyed at the selection of a candidate who rejects Ayn Rand's philosophy? Why does Ryan's budget plan incorporate the rugged and soul-less principles that Rand championed?

    Ken D: (1 dag sedan)
Paul Ryan is a slimy, two-faced liar. He'll say anything. He claims to like Ayn Rand to please the Republican libertarians, and then when he talks to Christians he claims to hate her so as to please them, because she's an atheist and Christians hate atheists. He couldn't admit that perhaps she was a nuanced person some of who's positions he supports and some he opposes, because Americans are too fucking stupid to see the world in anything other than black and white.

    There you go.

Before starting, I must say that I don't belive in Satan, God, The Holy Spirit nor anything similar. From my point of view, God and Satan are inventions created by the human being for:

-On the one hand, to represent the dualism of our soul: we have a "good" face in our soul, which is in charge of the good things and of our good intentions. This face would be the equivalent of "God", we could say. The other face, which could be identified with Satan, would be the bad and "dark" face of our spirit. This face is in charge of our bad attitudes, intentions, and the darkest aspects of our personality. So, through the labels "God" and "Satan" we name both parts of the human soul.
-On the other hand, to justify human's bad and good behaviours, and as a guide or "how to use" our soul/spirit. This weapon has always been used by religion to control the people in the world: religion tell the people to act well to reach God (eternal life and eternal happiness), and to act as they (the religious hierarchies) want, in order to obtain benefits from the people. If people don't obey them, they tell people that they'll go to Hell with Satan and they'll be unhappy and die, as a way of threatening people in order to obtain selfdom from them. Also, they use the human being's fear of dying to control the whole Humankind.
So, God and Satan, for me, don't exist. They are only religion's and powerful people's inventions to control the rest of the people. I know that my point of view is kinda complicated and complex, but this is what I think.

Agreed. You are crazy to believe that Jesus is God in human form, and even crazier to believe in Satan. Period.

There are good messages in the bible, but too many dogmas go with it. So it does far more harm than good. Islam too.

get a red-letter-edition of the New Testament
then edit-out all the black words
that would be more helpfull to people than the way it's written now

He's a rebel angel, so most people blame their dysfunctions on him.

"Who, me? Rape this little child? No way man, SATAN did it... he acted through me, yes, but he was the one who did it."

We always need someone to blame.
