From what I hear, Trent apparently uses pitch shifting a lot on all kinds of stuff to alter the tone. I remember watching an interview with Alessandro Cortini some time ago, and he mentioned Trent "pitch shifting everything to hell" or something like that a couple times.

Just another slight note on the Dragonforce thing, one of my tutors last year actually knows Herman Li personally, and apparently he doesn't play solos live any more. After all of the embarrasing youtube clips of them fucking things up live the keyboard player now triggers a recording of the solo and they bring that up and turn down his actual guitar. Can't be 100% sure as to the validity of the statement, but I don't see why he would lie, he's actually friends with the guy...

But seriously, as I said before, if the little cocksuckers you're recording want it a certain way, then explain that it'll cost more money and might not sound as good as if they just fucking play it better, but don't force them to get any better, or else you might not be able to resent them as much! :loco:

is this the production tips forum or the ethics of production forum?

Joey asked a simple question, How about we keep it to what the original question is.

Like Aaron Smith said, I've had OK results using the elastic audio in pro tools 7.4 with small sections then reamping the DI track after either compressing or expanding the audio to the desired tempo. Not as good as getting it right the first place, but nothing is to me when working w/ audio.

IIRC, you use Nuendo or Cubase. So I'm not too sure if that would help you, but it might be something to look into if Nuendo or Cubase doesn't have a similar feature.

thats freaking awesome, i love Reznor productions, most of the nothing records stuff up through the newest Saul Williams he did all have me scratching my head, like "what the fuck was that, a synth, guitar or a drum" not too crazy about most of the post "fragile" stuff as far as nin is concerned, but its hard to argue with that solid of run.way off topic,

but as far as the OP goes, i say the grey area has more to do with how bad you want the buisness, and I sincerly doubt recording much slower than original tempo is going to yeild pleasing results, and i also doubt its being done by anybody anywhere enough to warrant this much discussion back in the day or currently. You could probably get away with a few bpm, I think i saw an abelton thing on how to warp guitars once. that might be worth checking out and productive torward the point.

So true. A guy I play in a band with always says "I can't tune because I have a floyd, so all of you tune to this note" and then plays his low E/low B/high E/whatever. Too bad we're playing 1 step down (A-standard). He still has the same fucking B-standard tuning with the same fucking strings, it's soon been a year already. Luckily we haven't been practicing for something like 8 months now, so we haven't had to deal with his laziness for a while.

The best thing was that I had a floyd too, and still had to tune 1 step up because he "couldn't tune because of the floyd" which was absurd  I installed a tremol-no into my guitar to do it though. Luckily he bought a Sc608B now so he can finally tune his guitar.

And the guitar he wouldn't tune is an Ibanez J-custom 7-string, so it's not a crap guitar or anything.

dude. seriously. tell me about it. the story of my life. i FUCKING HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAATE that shit!!!!!!!!!!!! get a fucking tuner you are not superman! and check ur intonation while ur at it douche bag! really. im sure im not the first to say this, certainly not the last but "if it aint in tune and it aint in time, guess what, it aint music" (furthermore, i dont know WHAT the fuck it is.)

one of my fav fusion guitar players, frank gambale, said something like: theres a lotta guys on the scene sweeping fast as hell but u can hear one note cus its sloppy.

dont be that guy. listen to between the buried and me, they are extremely talented and im sure they could play their stuff a little faster but they keep it at a tempo where u can hear the subtleties of their compositions, while maintaining the intensity.

If you don't like the idea of it than don't do it yourself, or don't buy music from people who do it.

Just don't complain! To each his own.

Personally I would never do it, but I'm in constant fear of the magic mythical frequencies that no one can here getting raped by using digital recording tricks :|

Meanwhile I use Superior 2.0 and a vst Bass....

    Fuck... I'm a hypocrite!

How do let obnoxious meme die because it wasn't all that funny the first time?

    (Oh, wait, that's impossible.)

Guitarded, I don't disagree with it in principle - but then again I'm close to alone here, and one of the few people I wound up partially agreeing with completely missed my sarcasm and tried to start an argument. I just didn't like the way it sounded when I tried it, or when I was able to tell that it was going on.

Slowing shit down to make it playable is gay. And I have never so ignorantly used the term "gay". I think I just set the whole gay movement back 5 years. I apologize to my homosexual brethren whom I have disgraced. Slowing down shit to make it playable is uber-ultra-hyper gay.

Homeless handicapped transsexual midget porn stars even call this slow motion guitar recording "hella gay."

i dont know why this thread was ressurected but

but i'll be brave enough to say once again, it doesnt matter how you get there, its the final product that matters

NOTHING else matters. go see the band live, are they shit? then dont buy their record! you dont have to! even if its perfect and they arent, you're not required to support it!
