I'd love to hear some pros opinions on the quality (or lack thereof) of the raw tracks.

Here's my attempt at it. I'm still new to mixing real drums but don't think it came out too bad! Awesome song!

Great song, thanks for the tracks. Here's my try:

    *edit*

And a second version already. A bit refined and different amplifier, which one is best you think? Or none of course. :D

Nice! It's kinda eerie hearing this haha. I liked the 1st one best. Care to share your process with the toms? I love how well they stand out in your mix! I can't seem to achieve that. :erk:

Links good again. It gets flooded then shuts down due to high traffic due to my cheap ass not buying a Dropbox account. Get it while its up or wait 3 days haha.

Thanks for your comment, I appreciate it. The first one was done on Peavey 6505, the second on an ENGL Blackmore. I hope the guitar sound is not too dark, but I liked it at that time, now I feel it could have been a little more edgy. For toms I mainly cut out around 3dB at 560Hz, and boosted 4.7Khz (4.5dB!) and a high shelve on 6.8Khz (6dB!) as EQ. It's possible because you cut out the leakage, otherwise it gets too harsh on the cymbals. In the buss for toms I put a compressor with about 6dB reduction on the hardest hits. I hope it helps, it's quite alot of boost but it was possible on those toms I think.

Nice, ill give that a shot. For some reason I get scared to boost the high end, but I suppose it's necessary at times. I'm recording the same kit next weekend and I think I'll try 57's on the rack toms. The 421s weren't bitey enough for this style IMO.

    Hi, here's my first mix

I know the toms sound crap, but I haven't had enough time to edit them properly. Any criticism, good or bad, would be appreciated :)
