these might be a little cliche, but they are pretty unfuckwithable

I don't know about most beautiful, it certainly is a thing of beauty, but this here is easily my favorite song of all time. this recording of it too.

I knew Jeff Buckley was gonna be in there somewhere. Good choice.

What about Radiohead's Street Spirit (Fade Out)?

The only songs that come to mind (as my favorites) are all Nevermore or Opeth as far as what I consider the most "beautiful" or emotive. So uh, I'm going to go pretty mainstream I guess, even though these songs don't suck. If I had to pick just one it would be Sinead easily. Her voice has always been amazing. She also kind of looks like Winona Ryder here...

Sinead O'Connor & the Chieftains doing "The Foggy Dew" would also be a good choice.

I've never heard that song until now. It's really great too, although I'm sure there are quite a few songs with her that are great that I've never heard.

Chris Thile and Dax Riggs are both people who I think record many many beautiful songs

Hmmm....interesting topic.....right now I'd have to say "The Sparrow" by Mastodon - that guitar solo gives me goosebumps every time I play it and the whole song is a beautiful and mellow ride with a great theme - "pursue happiness with diligence".

If I go back into the vault, it would have to be "Benighted" by Opeth - another mellow song with an emotional guitar solo:

You can never go wrong with Dax. Agents of Oblivion were fantastic and it's a shame they didn't last long. I like his solo stuff but not like Agents. Hangman's Daughter blows my mind every time I hear it.

Also, props for Chris Isaak and Sinead O'Connor. Those are fantastic as well.

I almost chose Hangman's Daughter, it's a close second from that album for me.

This is wonderful, too, but I wanted to shy away from posting 2 cover songs

    *swoon*

edit: oh gosh now I can't stop

well so long as we Dax'in it up in here

    Flower girls play lover
    Grave games in the courtyard
I heard her screaming like a radio

Mary lou left marks on you
She just screams at the walls
    The kite string pops
I'm swallowed whole by the sky
We smoke the bones of baby dolls
    Techno-liquid screaming meat
    Heaven's cold beneath my feet
Cyber love the anti-man we make love... because we can

Virgins play where the bayou's blue
Barefoot (and bloody) eatin' mushroom stew
Work for pay and pay for freedom
Fuck 'em all, we don't need 'em
We smoke the bones of baby dolls

    Everything's gone dry
Like bottle glass scraping cross the pavement

Since others have broken the one song per person rule, I'll post a haul of some of my favorites (if pressed to choose I still stand by Tears in Heaven).

    The End of the Beginning

    Simple Man

    Wish You Were Here

Silent Lucidity (watch this live version, Geoff Tate is amazing)

Yeah, that's right, George fucking Jones. Haters gonna hate.

(also deeply amused by youtube's ad choices for that page)
