I thought I'd start a travel thread since many here go overseas and want to know where the Metal is etc.

Others here can share experiences/give advice.

My advice, if you travel anywhere be sure to check out Metal Travel Guide for where to go to catch up on Metal. It can have some info that is outdated but in general it's pretty handy.

Anyway, I'm off to Bangkok next week for business and just wondering who's been and what things are there to do there.

I've been once before and did the Tiger Temple / Bridge on River Kwai tour.

Any nightclubs worth a mention and I don't mean "ping pong shows", girly bars, etc. not that there's anything wrong with that.

I've been to The Rock Pub as per the guide above, not bad and there was a Metal cover band doing requests but it was a bit empty. Even still I will go again this time to check it out to see if things are any better.

I did go to the Rock Pub again whilst in Bangkok, it was a bit better this time around.

Also I found this place Miky Gun Club

I had a bit of fun on my day off and got to play with these bad boys:

I completely missed this thread when you originally posted it. Good to hear you had a good time! I like Bangkok. Gun club! What kind of music did they play at the Rock Pub? I walked past it once, but from memory it was being renovated so I didn't go in.

Rock and I've always heard Metal each time I go. It depends on the band as to what songs they play and they sometimes take requests.

I walked in the other night to the band doing Whitesnake, the band was flawless - all the words aren't pronounced properly but the singer was spot on.

A good range of music from Megadeth, Pantera, to Queen, Led Zeppelin, etc.

    Definitely worth a look in!

I've been to Bangkok twice now and getting used to it. It's good in small doses, I wouldn't want to live there though.

I went to the shooting range on Koh Samui when I was in Thailand.

    Got to shoot AK47's, M16's etc :D

Good fun. I think I saw a big sign for that Miky Gun Club place last time I was in BKK

Edit: Ohh you shoulda gone Package 3 man :D

I was considering it but with automatic weapons you 'basically' just shoot then adjust your aim until the trail of bullets hits your target.

Not to say that isn't just as much fun but your cash flies out faster - lol.

I prefer semi-auto weapons to practice with as it involves a bit more skill and looking at the defence aspect, I'm more likely to encounter an attacker with a handgun than an AK47.

An extremely dangerous situation - should it happen it's always best to comply with their demands but just in case the situation should call for the apprehension of the weapon as a last resort or should a low risk chance be presented. ;)

Oh Fair enough. I prefer handguns as well to be honest but just the coolness of shooting an AK47 or a M16 etc :D

ya should've went to the gun club after that. lol.

Amsterdam is cool, we went to The Cave but it wasn't the best for Metal must've been an off night, we then went to another club and it more trendy but was playing Judas Priest videos.

Yeah - managed to talk my way out, but I was ready to jump out the window if need be! I'd like to go back to Amsterdam, for I'd enjoy it more now.

We only stayed a couple of days and in the city centre.

I thought the place was rather boring to be honest.

Most annoying was the large amount of black people trying to sell you coke.
I was told by the guy running the backpackers that anything good was not sold on the streets. He also claims seeing a few bodies removed from the hostels over the years due to eccy's cut with poisons.

I'm going to Singapore next week for work, Should have plenty of free time in the evening though.

I looked at the metal travel guide, it lists a place that should be easy for me to get to that I might check out one night.

Anyone know any other cool places to visit? :)

    Yep, LOL!

There's listings for Brisbane, Ipswitch and Townsville.

I did notice a goth style clothing store and tattoo parlour so it's not all country bumpkins up here. It is a small place though. I'd say a lot of people are here to work the coal and sugar.
