Manhattan is huge, 90% apartments and majority of the population doesn't even own a car! Its brilliant.

And seriously after not owning a car, I don't want to buy one again :( Such a major money pit.

Have you been to any of the Jazz clubs? If so are they as cool as they look like in the movies?

Haha not yet, I've seen a really cool Cigar bar that plays Jazz etc though. It also has the biggest whisky list I have ever seen in my life. I love the bars here :D

I spend more of my time at bars in the Village, cheap drinks and food. Its a very kind of quirky scene/place. I know a couple of neat little metal bars too which is cool.

There is only so much population Aus. can handle. We have too much salt here, not enough fresh water. People complain the lack of rain is drying up our dams - to a degree but they seem to forget our population is bursting and more people = more water usage.

Have you been to Snitch? Duff & Scott of V.R. own it. Not bad, it had a good crowd when we went (I think it was a Monday night) but mainly youngsters with trendy Metal shirts that you'd find at Hot Topic.

    * changing guitar strings.

I was hoping to write this in the what I like thread, I finished changing strings without injury.

I go to toss out the offcuts, bend them to fit into the packet, one of the bastards drew blood.

    :bah:

Hah yes! It's a bit like Freddie Mercury singing "Another One Bites The Dust".

Yeah, I didn't find it very exciting TBH.
I went to a tiki bar in the east villlage, which is very quirky and plays mostly heavy metal music with some classics mixed in. Was much more enjoyable :D

Pop over to "Giando On The Water" in Brooklyn for lunch, for some of the most stunning views of Manhattan while you eat. Featured in the Sopranos a couple of times. That's where I got married :D

You a US citizen or something, Falkor? You're in a good position. I'd move to New York in a flash....not that I've even been to the states.

Why'd you get married there, huma?

Weeell, the original idea was to pretty much elope - my wife and I were going to stay in NY for a few weeks, cos we both love the city, get hitched then take off to Europe for a few more weeks to honeymoon and visit her family in Austria and Poland. As much as I enjoy attending weddings, neither of had much of an inkling for the whole thing - I don't especially enjoy being the center of attention and nor did I have any desire to pay for legions of relatives I barely know to get fed and pissed at my expense (bare in mind my wife is Greek/Polish, so that means an extended family of approximately 4500, all of whom would expect an invite).

We had lots of friends and family tell us however that if we were to get married in NY they would come along - so we made a date of it and in the end had nearly 30 guests in depths of a February NY winter come and enjoy the day with us. It worked out quite spectacularly in the end cos everyone made a big holiday of it and ended up having an awesome time. And we could invite everyone we knew knowing that only the most determined would make the effort! Haha!

It's ANZAC Day, which is apparently the day we commemorate the London Blitz, going by what I saw on at least two channels this morning. And the ads! War celebrations are a great way to sell bathroom renovations!

Everyone's saying "lest we forget", but I think too many people don't know what we're supposed to be remembering in the first place.

Thanks for the tip mail_Huma! Looks like a great spot, weather is getting nicer i'll pop over there in the next couple of weeks and check it out :D

Winmar, I got offered a job in the NYC office of the company I work for. They sponsored me for a visa, its 3 years extendable to 5 and then can changed into a green card as well if we want to stay longer.
