    I've really been digging the guitar sound on Mercenary's latest CD, "Architect of Lies", so I sent the band an email asking what they used. Got this reply:

    As I Lay Dying - An ocean between us was the Ultra XL module, not the standard one (only interested as im borrowing my mates RM100 with the ultra module

    JCM 800's for sure. Look up the home video /making of youthanasia for more info on the guitar/pickups, it's all on youtube.

    Little question about this Lasse:
    Have you quad tracked guitar or only dual tracked and bi amped guitars?

    thinking about just doubletracking for the next one though

    deffo didnt see any 800s in the actual studio for recording, and doesn't sound like an 800 to me on the record either!! :-s

    They used CAE 3+ tube preamps and VHT 2150 power amps on Youthanasia and Countdown to Extinction. Marty switched to the Crate Blue Voodoo after Youthanasia.

    You can actually figure out quite a few of the gear used here.
    OD808, Washburn, Ibanez & Gibson Guitars. No cabs around =(

    Periphery - Self Titled

    Guitars: EBMM JP7, Blackmachine b6

    Pickups: EBMM: Custom piezo. Blackmachine b6: BKP Painkillers (pretty sure)

    Amp: Axe-Fx Ultra: Fas modern amp sim with custom impulse cab sim.

    Bass: Line 6 pod xt

    quad tracked, 2 tracks 5150 2 tracks dual rectifier.
    guitar used: esp horizon with SD jeff beck pickups (IIRC, definitely duncans of some sort)


    Defeated Sanity - Chapters of Repugnance

    Guitars also quad-tracked. main pair is a zoom tri-metal through a marshall jcm2000 dsl 100, second pair is a pod pro, much lower in the mix.


    and an obvious one:

    retaliation - seven

    quad tracked
    main pair: tubescreamer - krank revolution - mesa OS 412 v30 loaded
    second pair: tubescreamer - peavey 5150 lead channel - same cab
    bass: sansamp psa-1
    guitar used: esp ltd mh-400 w/ emg81 pickups.

    Didn't they use an ENGL Invader to record?
    Also, Misha used a Cold Sweat bridge, Painkiller neck for his Blackmachine.

    No, all guitars are direct with Axe FX amp modeling.
    He does (has?) owned an Invader, but was never used for the album.

    Is this thread only for productions that Sneap has been involved in? Or can we add others that Sneap hasn't done? (but still on topic, obviously).
