Is the time of the year again. The regulars know the drill, and for the newbies basically is to post your top 10 (20, 25, whatever) albums, songs, concerts, DVDs, and anything else related to METAL.

Anyone can comment on any other person list as long as is not to drop a bomb, being annoying or so. So any post that the mods deemed as offensive or irrelevant to topic will be eliminated on sight.

And as usual I'm not going to post mine until Dec 31. Still waiting or some albums and not sure about the positions 10-20 :D

P.S After some posts are made I'm going to put it in the sticky section.

The "Big 3" of prog metal made my top 10. Is it 1994?
    10. Pink Cream 69 - Ceremonial
    9. Queensryche - Frequency Unknown (For obvious reasons)
    8. Place Vendome - Thunder in the Distance (Not quite Unisonic, but the best PV disc so far. Kiske still has it)
    7. Fates Warning - Darkness in a Different Light (Great return to form)
    6. Dream Theater - Self Titled (See above)
    5. Pamela Moore - Resurrect Me (Really enjoyed this disc. Production is slammin' too. She was a joy to interview earlier this year)
    4. Stratovarius - Nemesis (Haven't cared anything they've done in a decade, what a fantastic album. Very heavy, very controlled.)
    3. Stryper - No More Hell to Pay (Best album of their career!)
    2. Skid Row - United World Rebellion Chapter 1 (Solid return to form, with an absolutely killer EZO cover)
    1. Queensryche - S/T (They're back on top, with an album I've been waiting 20 years to hear)
*Theocracy - S/T 2013 Remix (Absolutely loved the great job Matt did remixing this album. It went from a very good album, to a great one)

Concerts: Skid Row - Detroit, Queensryche - twice (Toledo and Detroit, including meeting the band in Toledo!), Kim Mitchell, Vince Neil, BB King, Alice Cooper, and a handful of comedians like Lisa Lampanelli and Frank Caliendo.

    Interviews:
This was an amazing year for me in terms of radio interviews. I got to interview a dozen or so musical heroes and record producers. Other huge names coming either this month or next. Musicians I interviewed included:
    Geoff Tate (Queensryche)
    Snake Sabo (Skid Row)
    Scott Rockenfield (Queensryche)
Gus G (Ozzy, Firewind, Dream Evil)
    Pamela Moore (Queensryche's Sister Mary)
    Dave Rude (Tesla)
    Michael Sweet (Stryper)
Joseph and Jon Leon (White Wizzard)

    And producers/engineers:
Michael Wagener (Master of Puppets, No More Tears, Slave to the Grind)
    Jimbo Barton (Rush, Queensryche, Metallica)
Paul Northfield (Rush's Moving Pictures, Alice Cooper, Dream Theater)
Maor Appelbaum (Mastering engineer of Halford, Sepultura, William Shatner, etc.)

The albums that made an impression on me in alphabetic order:

    Annihilator - Feast
    Attacker - Giants Of Canaan
    Carcass - Surgical Steel
    Cloudkicker - Subsume
    Cynthesis - ReEvolution
Gigan - Multi-Dimensional Fractal Sorcery and Super Science
    Intronaut - Habitual Levitations
Kataklysm - Waiting For The End To Come
Memento Waltz - Division By Zero

    Queensryche - Queensryche
    Satyricon - Satyricon
    Tad Morose - Revenant
    Watain - The Wild Hunt
    Woe - Withdrawal

Carcass will probably be my number one. Queensryche and Cloudkicker will be second and third place (when nothing changes).

I guess most of you have never heard of Cloudkicker. So I post a youtube of the album below.
Note: this is a instrumental album and the sound starts after the 1:40 mark. Yes, that is a bit weird, I know. :)

I have a silly question for you all.

I am always TERRIBLE about these kind of lists because I can't seem to recall what I picked up and when. that said... how do you all recollect what you bought (and that it was released this year) to be able to come up with your lists?

That said - one of my tops this year is the new Vangough "Between the Madness" - if you are a fan of Pain of Salvation, Barren Earth and Porcupine Tree - I HIGHLY recommend you check this one out. It's a great combination of those 3 yet they maintain their own sound. www.officialvangough.com has some full song streams.

I rip my albums to mp3 (320 CBR) and sort them on year in iTunes. And because I use the 'smart playlist' option new albums are automaticly added to the list.

So I have a nice and complete overview.

Btw, When I used windows I used foobar2000 to do the same thing.

Like Hawk said, I sort my mp3 collection by Date Modified and see what I've added in the past year. I also take note of how many songs I added from each album. If I added 1-2, it's probably not making my top 10. If I added the entire disc, likely top 5 material.

Since I only buy in physical format it's pretty easy. I have a Word document and I start inserting the data as I get the CDs.

The actual problem for me it's not remembering but sorting the albums from top to bottom o_O

thats what i do. create a word document so as the year goes on i can somewhat keep track of what i buy. i am running out of room though so eventually the buying will slow down. i guess thats ok since the cd format will be dead in a few years.

^ I've often thought of building a site similar to that - but somehow coming up with a novel idea of creating a true music social media site.

Sorting by year in itunes was a big "duh" moment haha. I'll have to try that.

Deron you can dot it with 'smart playlists'.
iTunes does not have a 'sort on year' option. But smart playlists are much better. :)

Among the 10 albums released this year which I bought were only four metal albums, so my list is very short:

    1. Avatarium - "Avatarium"
    2. Mortillery - "Origin Of Extinction"
    2. Voivod - "Target Earth"
    4. Nightwish - "Showtime, Storytime"

Another album might at least be considered metal-related, so I'll mention it as well:
    Bergtatt - "Lagnadsoger"

    np: Avatarium - "Moonhorse"
