Word on the grapevine is that they're moving to Broadway as of this friday coming. Not sure how reliable to source is though so i could be wrong.

It seems pretty logical to me. Utopia is established enough and have loyal customers. The move somewhere that's loads cheaper, they get almost exactly the same amount of business. Win.

The rent on the current store would be astronomical!

Nah, Broadway isn't close enough to PMR to encroach upon its local customers... I don't think they'll affect each other any more than they are now.

Do you mean the poo-swarm of emos that like to hang outside?

(not trying to be disrepectful to the store)

It's probably a good thing, if it's cheaper rent for them at broadway, the prices will probably go down a bit eventually.. It is just as easy to get to, maybe a little less convenient though.

Only reason I go there at all is because it's so convenient. If it's at broadway I won't be there ever except when they have a decent band doing a signing/promo. Hopefully something decent goes there at least instead of a bunch of other $2 and clothing shops.

I'm talking about the people that actually buy from them.

i guess one good thing about utopia being in broadway (apart that its close to tafe, usyd and uts) is that maybe it could be open during/after club blink/liquid buzz etc.? some potential late night shopping sprees perhaps

    That's an educated response.

Show's how little you know about how much Utopia has done for Metal in Sydney.

Saying that, I will admit, I preferred them when they were across the road.

But hopefully the move makes things better, and they go back to their roots... On a plus sign, they will be closer to my office. :) winz0rxz!!1!

i was waiting for someone to say that. despite the emotron it has become today, utopia has done heaps even for just me, signings, instores, fueled a lot of my collection, inc many many signed opeth goodies, so im forever indebted to them for that :)

I actually dislike the place because of the assholes who work in there and the shithouse prices.

I respect that they do stuff for the community, but it doesnt mean they dont suck :) Definitely not my shop of choice.

Utopia should take a page from melbourne's Metal Mayhem imo. A much smaller store with a better range and cheaper prices.

I still have fond memories of the Wynyard store from years ago.

Oh well, at least we can be assured of the same ass-rooting prices wherever they are located.

Th current store was a botched attempt at running a metal and a dance store under the same roof. Makes sense to move to a smaller place I guess.

hahaha you have to be kidding me? when i went there, the range was terrible and the prices were hideous.

utopia i like. i dont buy any of the stuff thats new. i head straight to the sale section racks and the second hand stuff, and the vinyl... fuck buying new releases from them, thats what the interweb is for.
