Anyone happen to know some of the major influences for Val? I hear bits of old school shredders, like Jason Becker, in his playing...

I've had a quick look but sadly can't find any links to prove what I'm about to say:
Among other things, Val likes dubstep.
Make of that what you will.

My MAJOR influences would be Kirk Hammett and Joe Satriani back in my learning days. Then I swooped over to Yngwie Malmsteen to learn the classical aspects of solos! Nowadays it's Andy Lee from (Crisis (Ex Circle II Circle), Bucket head, Steve Vai, Paul Gilbert!

Thanks for the response Val...I love those players you mentioned, especially Gilbert...I'm a bass player, but one of my total musical heroes, especially back in the early days, was Nuno Bettencourt...always loved his approach...when I was in Nashville I worked several sessions for a fellow named Michael Wagener...Michael produced, among many other great albums, Extreme's Pornografitti, which was by far their most successful album...it was great to hear all the stories...he told me one time that Nuno wrote Whole Hearted while taking a "bathroom break"...yup, he took the guitar in, sat down, and did what comes naturally lol...that's all I can think about now when I hear that song...

Nice! Yea, I'm familiar with everyone you named! That's great! Also, I did produce DubStep and DJ at places from 2011-2014. Here's a link to songs I created if anyone cares lol, it's also tagged in my signature and can be found that way!

Interesting that all of these players we've mentioned are "older"...but there are a few young up and coming shredders (Val Allen Wood for one )...have any of you heard Kevin "Thrasher" Gruft from Escape The Fate? I'm not down with their style, but Kevin is a really, really good player...
