Warwick through bddi into Eden head and cab with a 57 and d6. Blend to taste. Di limit (to buggery) and psa with drastic hp/lp. Sometimes add some grit to the 57 track and use for mid punch (d6 is fairly scoopy). That was my last bass sound anyways.

Yeah, coz he doesn't have the ability to decide what tones he likes!!

FWIW, I don't really like the Sansamp either. Usually it sounds too buzzy to be of any use as a main distortion sound. I only ever use it to augment an existing distortion.

The key with the sansamp is to not go into full-blown distortion with it. Use it as a grit/overdrive unit. You need to have a powerful raw performance with it, otherwise it's kinda useless, as it just accentuates/shapes what clank is already there.

If you're going to fully distort a bass tone, use a Dual Rectifier, Dunlop MXR, or something like that. Grindy guitar amps work well. As Ola says, dial it so it sounds like shit!

Well i guess I should specify more ....

    Recently its been 2 Channels

    1. Pod Farm Bass OD High passed to all living fuck
    2. Ampeg or Highway 200 amp sim in Pod farm with a 2x15 cab emulation and condenser mic low passed to all hell.

Basically its the "Ola Englund" theory on bass.

I just really don't like the unit. I like bod much more and use it to make cool clean bass tones. It gives some grit, and I mix my clean sounds with distorted ones.

Thanks for the input. A lot of options that I'll try.

Oh, and a sansamp is not rocket science. I'm pretty sure I know how to use it. :) I just don't like what it does.

Well the trick to metal bass is really the Distortion / Clean track combination. You can use anything for the distortion really. Hell I have used my Zakk Overdrive and My Tube Screamer at times.

i've seen andy on an interview mentioning that he uses it for this reason(the interview for"sound on sound"correct me if im wrong guys).
i'm sure you love andy's production and you like the bass distortion too.
peter tagtgren uses sansamp for so many years too for the same reason.

I guess I'm in the minority here as well, but I just really dislike the sansamp. But I think getting a good bass tone is more in how you mix the gritty and clean tracks and less of how you actually get the gritty track gritty. A good clean tone is just as crucial (maybe more crucial?).

I like the Sansamp PSA but dislike the BDDI that I own, I dislike the PodFarm version even more. They're not similar at all. There are a lot of different sansamp models so maybe some specificity would help in this thread.

oddly enough, and i'm sure it shouldn't be different... I prefer the pedal sansamp.. especially if it goes into/with this...

Oddly enough I like the ElevenFree plugin. Far better than Sansamp IMO.
