Damn good year for music, some of my top picks:

Scarve - The Undercurrent (WHY has no one mentioned this!?)
Beneath the Massacre - Mechanics of Dysfunction
Ion Dissonance - Minus the Herd
Dillinger Escape Plan - Ire Works
Dimension Zero - He Who Shall Not Bleed

I could write like 15 more of the top of my head...

I would like to add Candlemass's King of the Grey Islands on my list. Why didn't you guys tell me Rob Lowe's voice is GOLD, Jerry, pure GOLD?

Hm, a few additions/ special mentions

Amorphis- Silent waters. I was affraid this one would sound too similar to Eclipse, but there was enough progression in the sound while still maintaining all the element I enjoyed.

Nightwish- Dark Passion Play. Great first album with the new singer. Thought they might go all mainstream, but instead they released an album with some good songs and some really awsome songs.

Voyager- uniVerse. Another Aussie band. Picked this up after seeing them live and was totally blown away. Great porg/power without the ball tearing vocals and a melodeth vibe at times. Quite unique and a nice change.

I just listened to Porcupine Tree's "Fear of the Blank Planet" once again and i'd like to add it to my "best metal albums 2007" list.
The song "Way out of here" is AWESOME. Drumming is brilliant also.

Is it just my lack of observational skills, or have you not been around for awhile?
