How do I get a nice fretless bass sound?

When I think about fretless, I think about 400-500hz. This is usually where you cut for metal, but on a fretless it's where you boost. Chances are it will cut through great because the distorted guitars will be all but eliminating this range of frequencies.

    What Bass Should I Buy?

Nothing in your price range is going to sound better IMO. Spend the money trying strings and gain pedals, that will go farther in my experience. For bass strings are 75% of the sound and changing them and finding the right match for the bass is important.

Issues with bass guitar / tone knob.

You can put a low pass at 4k and slide it backwards towards 1k and see if you notice anything missing. If you don't, then put it on and that will even things up a little (hopefully.) But, the only way to truly fix it will be to retrack the song (in most of these cases, in my experience.)

An idea to compare our techniques

An update, my DAW is having problems with synching my recorded audio to the tracks I dl'ed. My track gradually drifts further and further off time. I'm sure it's some kind of Sonar problem. I'll try to work it out this weekend between gigs.

An idea to compare our techniques

I got the quantized drums. I should be able to work on this during the week.

An idea to compare our techniques

Well, the idea is I'm going to track bass to your song in post #1 and give you the tracks to include in your mix. I was just checking to see that the tracks have not been updated since post #1 because it's not a good idea to record bass to the drums that aren't going to be used for the final...

An idea to compare our techniques

I'm from New Orleans. Can I just provide tracks and allow others to mix?

An idea to compare our techniques

I'm dling the drums (quantized) and guitars to take a listen. Are those the right drums that you'll want to use?

I didn't read all 7 pages, but are you still looking for bass?

    Pod XT for bass??

I get good results with the Bass Overdrive pedal in front of the Hiwatt 100 amp model. I usually pick one of the single-speaker cabinets, one of the 15s more often than not, as the cabinet model. If you want to hear how it's sounding for me, I can point you to some songs on myspace to take a...

Any LinMB users?!? Attack/Release for metal/hard music...?

I used to use LinMB and I switched to using T-Racks for mastering. While LinMB is more flexible T-Racks is simpler to use and less is more (IMO) in this case. Disclaimer: I'm not a professional mastering engineer.

Serious problem with BLACKLIST mastering. Help!!

I am by no means a pro, but i've done a lot of mastering over the past 10 years. If all you have to go with is the Waves limiter, here's my suggestion. Open the track in a program like soundforge and highlight the "loudest" section in the unmastered wav. It will give you a number for the...

    Bass strings for recording recommendations

I use GHS Super Steels or DM Hi-Beams if I'm going to play fingerstyle. I will not put nickelwound strings on my bass unless I'm going to use a pick and I do have to change the Nickel strings much more often. I can get probably 12-15 hours of playing on steelwound before I start getting bummed...

    Tool - Opiate info?

For bass, I have read that he used either a Rickenbacker or an Ovation Magnum bass. I have seen videos with either used from the time period.
