    Top 50 of 2017

It really is. My #1 stoner record of the year.

    VISIGOTH: Conqueror's Oath

One of my most anticipated releases of the year. Their debut will one day be considered a classic.

    Top 50 of 2017

LOL. While black metal and death metal still dominate my listening cycles, I've also been listening to a fair amount of stoner stuff lately, some of which is fairly rock-oriented and might be up your alley. Here's a few that you might like: Elder - Reflections of a Floating World. Perhaps the...

    Top 50 of 2017

Whereas our tastes once ran along parallel paths, they've now diverged quite a bit. Your Top 50 and my own have but two records in common; Sorcerer (#25) and Kreator (#30). That said, I did grab the names of five records from this list that I'll make it a point to spin before year end: Progenie...

A MEMBER OF OUR FAMILY HAS PASSED AWAY

Wow. I'm sorry to hear that. My condolences.

How have your musical preferences changed over time?

After growing up on the metal of the day in the 80s (Motley Crue, Queensryche, Tesla, Manowar, Metallica, etc.) I lost track of the genre for a number of years. I rediscovered it in late 1998 with Nevermore, Iced Earth, Control Denied and Hammerfall, being some of the first records to...

    My Top 50 of 2016

Glenn... if you're vibing a lot of retro 80s music, I'd recommend Sumerlands. Unlike Striker and Spellcaster, who sound like they were raised on a fairly strict diet of Hair Metal, Sumerlands feels more like they grew up listening to the more esoteric bands of the early and mid 80s.

    AMARANTHE: Maximalism

Amaranthe has always been a pop band in metal clothes. Although some will likely see that as an insult, it's not. It's merely an honest assessment of their sound and image. The fact that the new single is a pure pop song seems like little more than them moving along a predictable trajectory.

    Pareidolia: Denied Truths

    Nice recommendation.

Green Carnation - Light of Day, Day of Darkness

I bought this record when it came out, but was never truly impressed by it. I'd be surprised if I listened to it in its entirety more than three or four times. Still, I was curious to see how it would come across live when it was announced the band would be performing it in its entirety at PP...

    Cheers/Jeers

Cheers to whoever the blind gentlemen is who attends this festival. That guy is more metal than anyone else at the festival. Cheers to Green Carnation. Although I've owned LoD,DoD since 2002, it's never blown me away. However, it turned out to be the best 60 minutes of live music I've ever...
