    AVANTASIA: Ghostlights

I can't get over how good this album is. Between this and Helion Prime (and Wisdom coming out next week!), it's going to be really, really tough for anything else to break into my top 3 for the year. And it's only mid-February.

HOLY GRAIL: Times Of Pride And Peril

Brand new lyric video debuted about 10 minutes ago! James Paul Luna doing his best Daniel Heiman impressions in the verses. This is really, really good.

Wisdom - Rise of the Wise

This may be my most anticipated release this year. Over the last few years, they've snuck their way in my top 5 favorite power metal bands and certainly one of my top-5 *live* power metal bands. They're not doing anything earth-shattering or groundbreaking (think Sabaton/Amon Amarth, etc.) and...

HOLY GRAIL: Times Of Pride And Peril

I'm really looking forward to this. I'm too close to the band to be objective (I've known them since the beginning - the guys used to live next-door to my ex-girlfriend and the bassist lived with one of my closest female friends in college), but from what I've heard of the album, it's...

Helion Prime - Into the Black Hole (FFO: Unleash the Archers, Mindmaze)

And for those who like harsh female vocals, they released this live video: I'm scared at how much I enjoy them already. The last time I got into a band this quickly was Noble Beast and I legit binged them all of 2014. I do think the selected music I've heard this year (Cloudscape, Avantasia...

Helion Prime - Into the Black Hole (FFO: Unleash the Archers, Mindmaze)

I don't know the rules around here about posting single songs, so please delete if I've violated anything, but I'd imagine some people here would really, really enjoy this. Early song-of-the-year candidate for me: They're coming out of Sacramento, CA and their debut album comes out in...

    Everyone else's Top Whatever List.

Did I make a list here? Is it too late? The Great: Native Construct - Quiet World Cain's Offering - Stormcrow Ascendia - The Lion and the Jester Dragony - Shadowplay Pyramaze - Disciples of the Sun Stratovarius - Eternal Unleash the Archers - Time Stands Still (for a long while this was my #2...

Last two gigs of the year

Love reading your reviews. I've got one more gig this year - Orphaned Land on Christmas Day in Germany. Hopefully saved the best for last - they're one of my absolute favorite live acts on the planet.

    Lancer - Second Storm

I really, really enjoy these guys. Saw them open for Freedom Call a few months ago in Stockholm. Great energy, awesome stage presence. They remind me a bit of Holy Grail, my buddies back in Los Angeles, so that's my best comparison.

    Gamma Ray Live!

I may go to this show tomorrow, but I'm really only interested in Serious Black. Gamma Ray may very well be my least favorite power metal band. I just cannot stand Kai Hansen's voice. It's so grating.

ProgPower XVII Days 1 and 2: Ticket Link

Had VIP last year for the Thursday show, but got it from someone who had an extra (we transferred via e-mail, Nathan had my name and everything literally the week after tickets went on sale, so it wasn't last-minute or anything). Haven't heard anything this year about how to get VIP tickets...

ProgPower USA XVII: "Glenn's Choice" Announcement

UnpopularOpinion70K says: I don't know, they just don't do it for me. They were definitely one of the first power metal bands I got into about 15ish years ago, but I feel like either you're a rabid BG fanboy or you're not. I'm not. However, I love Persuader, which is basically a super poor...

ProgPower USA XVII: "Glenn's Choice" Announcement

I'm the biggest power metal fan I know. And I'm also the only power metal fan I know who isn't that into Dragonforce or Blind Guardian. That said, I'm still VIPing the shit out of this midweek lineup (if/when we get information about it).

PPUSA Day 1 Headliner Announcement! (update 11/16)

Did not expect this at all. I've said this before about Dragonforce - I'm not a fan of their recorded material and will probably never buy a record of theirs (at the same time, I received a copy of their debut album the day it came out from some promo website a long, long time ago, so I've...

PPUSA Day 1 Headliner Announcement! (update 11/16)

. . .and how do I get a VIP badge for Wednesday/Thursday? Let me know how much money you guys want. Incredible add. You guys are the best.

    Freedom Call recommendations?

Talked to them very, very briefly about ProgPower last night. They're super excited to bring the show stateside. Not sure if there's any special plans/any special setlist being planned, but I put the idea in their heads. This tour is primarily featuring an Eternity setlist, I doubt they'll be...

PPUSA Day 1 Headliner Announcement! (update 11/16)

Good choice. But, yes, hoping for a power metal headliner. Regardless, I'll be going and I hope I can VIP it up again. No idea where in the world I'll be, but I won't be missing this.

    Any fans of Winterborn ?

It is, as far as I know. I asked their guitarist about a year ago and he said that he didn't have any copies of the album left to sell. That said, I literally struck gold as I was able to get a copy (the only copy they had) at ProgPower this year from the booth all the way on the right in the...

    Any fans of Winterborn ?

Yes, I'm like the biggest fan of Winterborn. Cold Reality is probably a top 15 all-time album for me. Teemu Koskela is a phenomenal vocalist and I'm shocked this band never got bigger than they were.

    Steel Panther

I would love to see them again. I spent New Years 2010 at a Steel Panther show in Hollywood as my girlfriend went home (to the Dominican Republic) for the holidays and it was absolutely fucking phenomenal. I, for one, love stage banter and really don't mind the 10 minutes of chatting in between...
