    Adrenaline Mob

Probably the best song they've ever done, even with the painfully generic lyrics.

Accolade ii drop tuning? C# in verse 2

This is interesting, to say the least. I wasn't aware that the band ever used a tuning other than D standard. I think even MJR's solo album is in D standard.

What is the band thinking/up to?

While I wouldn't call it "horrid," it's definitely my least favorite album by them. Hessian Peel is cool, and there's neat little bits scattered around the album (the groovy middle part of Lotus Eater comes to mind), but other than that there's not much that's memorable on there.

New Album Ideas for Sym X for 2014

I think they should do something out of left field, such as this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Politics_of_Cameroon Just think, an entire concept album based on that. It would be marvelous!

    Vivaldi in Symphony X

I've never heard the Presto reference in Inferno, either.

    Symphony X End Of Innocence

GP6 has a lot more options than 5, but is also far more confusing. It does have some nice keyboard options, but they're quite limited unless you want to pay for more sound banks.

2013 - new and upcoming albums

Every Megadeth album (even RIP) has had some shits and (usually) some winners (aka non-shits). Cryptic Writings, for example, had the incredible She-Wolf, some decent tunes, some gold/silver shits, some average run-of-the-mill turds, and some literal shits (e.g. Have Cool, Will Travel). Perhaps...

2013 - new and upcoming albums

That Megadeth song does absolutely nothing for me. That band has always been about the riffs, and there's really none in this song - it's got that "wall of sound" thing going on, which I've never cared for. Oh well; they haven't done anything really remarkable in 20 years, anyway.

If you were Symphony X's advisor...

I definitely think Symphony X plays more of their newer material than they should, but they must think it's their strongest material (or sounds the best live) if they're continuing to play it. I believe MJR once said that he prefers the more progressive stuff, but apparently he changed his mind...

If you were Symphony X's advisor...

As a financial adviser or as an adviser of what I want to hear...?

Symphony X Song Tournament: Vote for the Best

Most of the time I actually prefer their verses to their choruses.

    Best solos ever

Lepond's bass solo in the beginning of Awakenings is pretty great. Also Rullo's drums in Frontiers and Death of Balance.

    Favourite Band

I've never heard of the guy, but it should be interesting. I guess it depends on their set, which I'm hoping contains some older classics mixed in with the underwhelming Iconoclast stuff. Hopefully we'll get some videos.

I haven't had a chance to, but it sounds cool. If it's anything like Ravages of Time, Pilot, or some of their other longer tunes, I'm sure I'll enjoy it. I remember Colophon being pretty solid. The others are kind of a blur. The first few tracks in particular felt underwhelming.

Symphony X Song Tournament: Vote for the Best

The Divine Wings of Tragedy Both of these are Symphony X's magnum opuses (is it possible to have two?), but I find that the earlier work just has more passion and drive to it. Islandstone touched on a lot of the reasons why I love this song (evil intervals, neoclassical feel, use of organs...

Symphony X Song Tournament: Vote for the Best

I completely agree with this; well said.

Symphony X Song Tournament: Vote for the Best

Music always matters far more to me than lyrics. Accolade's music is fantastic, but there's some parts that just drone on (the solos), whereas The Odyssey has far more musical depth. Accolade's intro and polymetric layered section are incredible, though. Musically, these last five songs...

So I've listened to about half of the latest Threshold album, and I definitely prefer Mac's voice to Damian's. None of the songs on this new album have really jumped out at me so far, either. It's solid, but lacks that special something.
