Circus Maximus - Nine: My Review

Fantastic album. This is the level of music I (we) always knew they were capable of making, and it was worth the wait.

Beyond the Bridge confirmed for PP USA XIII

What a fantastic little album, and a seriously talented band to watch, that I never would have known about were it not for this festival and this turn of events. I live on the other side of the world so I can never actually go to PP again, but I can't even count the number of amazing bands I've...

Japan Earthquake and Pacific Tsunami Relief fund

Thanks! The worst thing we've seen in Hiroshima is supply issues resulting in JR service cuts and an occasional inability to buy rice or bottled water. That, and I'm having to rethink my plan to move to Tokyo later this year -_- Miel, any idea where we could purchase that album? Can't find...

Japan Earthquake and Pacific Tsunami Relief fund

Ibaraki suffered a lot of significant damage, and 4 people were killed by the quake there. I'm happy your family is safe, but the radiation from the Fukushima plant is a major concern. I hope they stay safe, or have somewhere in western Japan they can go.

Japan Earthquake and Pacific Tsunami Relief fund

Thanks for posting this, the situation here is very dire. Almost half a million refugees, and most of the media attention seems to be turning to the unfolding nuclear disaster. My thanks in advance to anyone who donates anything at all. (I'm fine btw, western Japan is shockingly unaffected by...

    Helloween / Stratovarius - Seoul, Korea 3/2/11

Pretty much the same setlist for both bands when I saw them in Fukuoka last friday. Stratovarius didn't do Father Time though! >:| Good show though. Stratovarius didn't sound too hot because Timo's voice is a mess right now, but I was still happy to see them. It was my first time seeing...

'The Great Escape' from Seventh Wonder officially released!

Got it from iTunes, which has a pretty quick delivery turnaround but is lacking in the extras...i.e. liner notes and so on. Can anyone help me out on the story of "The Great Escape" (the song)? Or lyrics? I'd like to know more about what's going on there story-wise. And for what it's worth...

    Underrated Albums

Interesting, I felt the complete opposite. 01011001 felt like a forced rehashing of so much previous Ayreon stuff, while Guilt Machine sounded passionate and new. Not reinvent the wheel new, but new and fresh enough. Also, 01011001 is just a massive pain in the ass of a title.

    Underrated Albums

Arjen Anthony Lucassen's Guilt Machine - On This Perfect Day. I might be mistaken, but I think that was met with a rather ho-hum response. But I keep coming back to it...I think it's a much better album than Ayreon's 01011001, and the songs "Green and Cream" and "Perfection" are particularly...

    X JAPAN

Hey, another Hiroshima representative! Cool :D I wish X would play here someday...I'd love to see them, but going to Osaka or Tokyo for a show is such a hassle!

    Versailles and Galneryus

No love for 陰陽座 (Onmyouza)? Here's my favorite song. They're amazingly tight live. Both vocalists are very strong and sharp, they seriously blew my expectations out of the water. Sex Machineguns is also a fun show, I've seen them a bunch of times. Really...

Thoughts on new Coheed and Cambria?

It's funny, because I feel exactly the opposite. In Keeping Secrets is easily my favorite album of theirs. To me, it has by far the most hooks and is the most memorable of all their albums. Good Apollo Vol. 1, meanwhile, I find to be their most mundane and unlistenable album (with the...

Thoughts on new Coheed and Cambria?

This album is pretty amazing. It's a lot darker, a lot more "progressive" than NWFT. It seems similar to Burning Star IV, but much better. There are just enough catchy melodic choruses to keep you locked into the deeper stuff surrounding those songs. It's definitely the kind of album that...
