Can someone tell me what the lyrics to Blind Guardian's Blood Tears mean? Does it reference something from a fantasy novel?

I do know the entire disc is based on the Silmarillion by Tolkien. What the *exact* lyrics mean, I'm not so sure.

But from wikipedia: In "Blood Tears", Maedhros relates the horrors of his captivity and his deliverance by Fingon.

Back int he day there was a lot of lyrics discussion on the Blind Guardian board. The best that popped up on the quick search of the forum is "Fingon rescues Maedhros, has to cut off his hand."
