Hi Ken,
I am not familar with the music of Magma so which of their albums would you suggest as a good starting point?

I always recommend the double live CD Hhai - Live as an entry point for Magma. It features one of the great Magma lineups - has extensive instrumental work outs - masterful playing (Didier Lockwood plays his 'nads off) - fantastic cross-selection of material. Magma is one of these bands that you have to ease into slowly. If you start off with the wrong title it will be like walking head-on into a wall. Baby steps...baby steps are called for and you will be rewarded in the end.
