The Arcane Order – In the Wake of Collisions

The Arcane Order’s music is dark and chaotic. It’s difficult to classify them as the vocals don’t really match with the music, though both are fairly extreme. Speed seems to be a strong characteristic applied here as the band proceeds through ferocious intensities. The sound of the album is quite imaginative and has an open-minded approach. This is good for the kind of spacey style they try to maintain, which matches well with the cosmic imagery to be found on the cover of the album.
There’s also a controlled intensity that makes them somewhat of a force to be reckoned with on the whole, although there’s also an undercurrent of melody to be found. The band seems to want to fit into the death metal genre to some extent, but I also hear some black metal in the mix as well. Despite the melange of styles, The Arcane Order is very consistent in their thoughts. “Eruptions of Red” displays the band’s ability to morph and still maintain their vision throughout. They approach an almost epic climax at times to bolster everything into a higher gear. The performances are clinically performed with precision all the way through. The space driven images further dominate the music here and give them an other-worldly feeling. The last track “Horizons Buried” features a great build-up that is one of the most compelling moments on the album.
In the Wake of Collisions just falls short of achieving an overly phenomenal status and is nonetheless an outstanding collection of songs. The air tight approach of the outfit never fails to impress as the band wind through the different forms of their musical approach. Couple this with a sound that is slightly unlike any other to be found in the metal spectrum and the band has quite an impressive arsenal to appreciate. The Arcane Order come recommended to those looking for a stylish approach to an out of this world type of metal music.
