I guess this is about my final list of 2008, a damn good music year for me, the top 5 are all utterly awesome albums that usually appear only once or twice a year if you're lucky.

    1. IN MOURNING - Shrouded Divine
    2. BLOODBATH - The Fathomless Mastery (+ UTP)
    3. DAYLIGHT DIES - Lost to the Living
    4. COLDPLAY - Viva la Vida or Death and all his Friends
    5. TEXTURES - Silhouettes
    6. ELITE - We Own the Mountains
    7. STEVEN WILSON - Insurgentes
    8. OPETH - Watershed
    9. SATYRICON - The Age of Nero

Discoveries of the year: IN MOURNING & GOTYE, "Like Drawing Blood" would have been top 3 if it wasn't from 2006.

Position of Insurgentes might change. So far I like it, some songs more than others (about 50/50). I listened to it a lot, but it hasn't triggered an addiction yet.

I'm really getting into the new Enslaved, but it took me about 20 spins before it really set in.

Gotta agree there. The album sounds absolutely killer productionwise, but the songs fail to grab me.

Other albums that didn't turn out what I hoped them to be:
    METALLICA - Death Magnetic
    KEEP OF KALESSIN - Kolossus
    TIAMAT - Amanethes
    KEANE - Perfect Symmetry

That Testament record is good and it etertains me in some ways but it's too traditional-heavy metal sounding. Lacks the insane nature of The Gathering.

That's why I said 'not what I hoped them to be' ;), that means they're not bad albums by any means, but I expected/hoped for something (even) better.
