Advice needed: Bass-strings for recording

    Hi,
    Will record an album in Nov and need advice on good bass-strings for 5-string bass. The main bass will be a Ibanez SR305 (rather cheap bass, but I like it). Music style is heavy/powermetal. Tuning is Eb


    Any suggestions?

    This will be my first serious bass recording (I am mainly a guitar player) and my knowledge of good vs bad bass-strings are a bit limited.

    I like the Rotosound Swing Bass. Avoid the Dunlop steels like the plague. Duller than fucking flatwounds.

    DR Hi-Beam Stainless Steel are my fave. The Pro-Steels are nice strings too.

    If you like the "zzzing" in the highs instead of the "click" go for steels. If you prefer click (who on earth does?) to zzzing go for nickel.

    I just got some steel bass strings from Hong Kong through Ebay for £5 and honestly I'm REALLY surprised by how great they are! Don't think I'm going to bother spending 3-4 times that on brand name strings in the future tbh.

    lol wish I had read this before I recorded an albums worth of bass. Oh well. It didn't sound too bad ;)
