It wasn't Five magics he that he -rerecorded, it was Take No Prisoners.... and boy, can you tell.... Otherwise, he just tweaked levels for the most part, but it's pretty clear for the most part when it's been changed. I have them all (remasters). SFSGSW isn't that good, and In My Darkest Hour starts with acoustic guitar alone instead of the cymbal smash with electric and acoustic of the original.
Countdown to Extinction and Youthanasia are better than I remember. Total sing-a-long thrash-lite. CtE starts off so strong but those last 4 or so songs drag it down. I've always loved Youthanasia. The first 4 tracks are top notch. The album has some duds (Black Curtains, Blood of Heroes, Elysian Fields), but also has some killers (Victory, title track, 1st 4). SFSGSW is average. PSBWB is damn good, as is KIMBABIG Rust in Peace reigns supreme. After Youthanasia....lol
Countdown was my first Megadeth album and it still rules. You're right though about the last four tracks. Everything up to that point is great and I usually switch to something else after. Finally started really jammin Rust in Peace last year or the year before and it rules. Holy Wars just knocks my socks off. Did you ever listen to the last few albums? Dystopia is pretty good. Dig the lyrics too.
I think I listened to everything up Endgame. While good, it doesnt have the same fire and Mustaine sounds old.
I mean, he is old, and rich, and probably pretty content with life. So this is actually quite a lot of piss and vinegar for a man of his means.
