Even though every song sounds exactly like the last one they usually let a couple nuggets slip out, thats why he sounds so stressed when he sings

A Forest of Stars--Opportunistic Springtime Thieves. Not grabbing me. Seems like the songs don't have any finality or direction. Unimpressed with the guitar work, as I was with their previous album. Weak riffage and lazy playing.

Its not that its particularly bad, I just don't think it can decide what kind of album it is. The opening track is all over the place, the first half sounds like a Satriani song (quite a good one actually) and then it descends into some pretty stock and boring thrash. Quite alot of the time it suddenly switches to F-zero X music... not necessarily a bad thing, I just find the sudden contrasts too much.
Just seems to be a platform for Waters guitar work- I think if he'd made an instrumental album, it would've worked better - he's definitely got the chops to do so.
I do like the vocal production - sounds like early Metallica Hetfield.

Bit of a mixed bag really.

Yeah well, disregarding your description, I won't be checking that out for two very presumptuous and shallow reasons (which are, regardless, usually correct assumptions).

    1. The cover art sucks.
    2. Newer material from 80s/early 90s thrash is more likely to suck than probably any other genre I've ever seen. I really can't think of one single thrash band that had a good album in their later years.

Bonus reason: Annihilator were always third rate thrash anyway.

This album wouldn't be bad if it wasn't for the crappy Tom Arayas vocals immitation. As the musicianship isn't that atrocious the vocals are just fucking unbearable. There's a moment on the 2nd track that makes my ears hurt. If it was an instrumental album it would be okay. One of the worst vocals example ever.

I think these only help prove his point that old thrash bands can't have solid newer material. Testament's wasn't too bad, but not something I would get a lot of replay value out of.

ArneZ do you like anything else by BTBAM? Like Colors or Alaska, those are extremely better than The Silent Circus.

Based on what? The self-titled? Barring The Final Sign of Evil, I didn't like anything past Tapping the Vein.

M-16 and the self-titled are average as hell with the others after Tapping the Vein being mostly bad. I really enjoy early Sodom.
