I never saw "Bring The Noise" or "13" as joke songs. Really, I never had a problem with Anthrax letting loose and doing covers or releasing a goofy song here and there, but when you wait 3 or 4 years to hear their new proper album you want it to fucking rip.
Yes! Listened to it today on my way to work. Catharsis is probably the best Bush-era Anthrax song ever.
Well no matter what you think or know about their musicianship, I think that what helped Metallica get so big was their ability to write SONGS. They were the best songwriters of the Big 4 back in the day. The other bands didn't have the balls to write anything like Fade To Black.
Just for the fuck of it I just listed to Volume 8 last night and was scratching my head as to how bad this was. Even that Catharsis song is pretty lame...there are a few decent grooves here and there but overall a very bad Anthrax album
I'm not scathing of V8, but it is certainly weak when compared to the likes of ATL, POT, SOWN, WM, STD etc.
This. Kill 'em All was the fastest and heaviest at that time. Show No Mercy is very Iron Maiden and Judas Priest. Then Ride the Lightning was a massive step forward from Kill 'em All. As you say they did Fade to Black, whereas Exodus were proudly proclaiming "four albums, no ballad", with Impact is Imminent, while Anthrax did their first ballad as a pisstake on Killer B's.
Good points here. Makes total sense. You write some ballads for the female listeners, double your fans. Out of all the big 4 bands I've seen on their own, Metallica has always drawn the hottest babes.

Seriously, re-read your post and then tell me who sounds like a 'kid'. Oh and if you want to seriously debate the Metallica thing then I notice you have not mentioned the Black Album. This has gone 16 times platinum and arguably the album that catapluted Metallica into the stratosphere and made them so big. How does such a commercial album sit with the troo thrasher? But the opinions are like aseholes but still you get upset if my opinion doesn't match yours!
