    4. my older brother left some In Flames albums lying around, which led me to Dark Tranquillity and Hypocrisy, and then I started to encounter people online who could steer me further away from the Metalcore and Rock that had been all I'd known of, to what else is out there, and I would just check out _anything_ since I didn't know what genres sounded like or what I wanted.
    5. I'm not sure what your definition of 'genre' is. Folk Metal is inclusive of many of what would normally be called genres, so if I say I like 'Folk Metal' the most, I'm saying I like certain kinds of Black Metal, Melodic Death Metal, Power Metal, etc., over other kinds of Black/MeloDeath/Power/etc., which is not nearly so helpful as saying 'Black', which clearly puts Power/Death/etc. below.
    6. '90-'00 or 2000+.
    7. no
    8. Yes.
    9. I don't make any truth claims about that.
    10. yes, but all to a lesser extent: Neofolk, Trip-Hop, Underground Hip-Hop, Classical, the occasional Euro Pop song, etc.

    4. The idea of metal music had always appealed to me, even from an early age. I suppose the attraction to this kind of music revealed something about me that I hadn't fully realized yet. But getting into metal was easy because it was just a natural progression on the music that I was already listening to at the time. The first bands that had appealed to me like Marilyn Manson, Genitorturers, Rob Zombie (etc.), which I had initially thought was metal. Marilyn Manson's Antichrist Superstar was my first album, and I realized how a single album could have such a profound effect on myself. Because of this I began to seriously look into buying more CDs and exploring what was out there. The internet was a big help with sites like amazon where you could listen to 30-second samples and such. I would do that, and then go to the local music shop to buy CDs and then it evolved from there.

I didn't say classical sucks. I like classical, I just feel that many of the reported "great pieces" aren't anything special. As always with art, this statement may not be true in regards to you, but it definitely is to me. Take for example the aria Der Hölle... in Mozart's opera The Magic Flute. At parts I feel the music is absolutely brilliant, but most of the instrumentation for the majority of that aria I find very uninteresting. Likewise, the female lead of that aria (in all incarnations) usually sound emotionless in their delivery. Yes, they are superbly technical in most regards (hell, youtube it and see Diana Damrau own the fuck out of her chords), but in the end it doesn't do anything for me. Likewise, there exist composers who really come off as exquisitely technical, but does nothing for me (ex: the majority of the works of Webern that I've heard).
I prefer the likes of Chopin, Rachmaninov, Bartok, Messiaen, F.J. Berg, Bach, Prokofiev and Shostakovich.

Mussorgsky's Gopak of the Merry Lads is great for yard work (totally fucking serious too).

See above. Also, shove a rake up your ass.
