    I got this Order thing with my Marduk CD and it had a shirt for Absu, the backside said 'Mythological Occult Metal' on it.
    I was wondering if anyone has heard them and what they think of it, any bands to compare it with and so on. I have found one MP3 from them 'Customs Of Tasseomancy', but I would like to hear more from them.

    This is also posted at Dark Tranquillity board to get more oppinions

    Its black metal (Darkthrone class). When I listen to them I always think that the singer is ready to puke...He can´t sing. They suck big fluffy elephant bars.

    Yeah i heard of them

    Try their latest album TARA

    Beware though, it's bloody fast!! Proscriptor is about the fastest drummer out there!

    Gotta admit that the vocals are a bit weird though

    So you mean it's true black metal, with emotion and atmosphere? Sounds good.

    Sounds ok to me, don't know what the hell Xeno is talking about :rolleyes:

    @Morbius
    Tara was what the shirt was for too.

    This was interesting, under compilation appearances:

    "Sylvester Angfang/Deathcrush"
    cover track for the official "Mayhem" Tribute CD
    Avant Garde Music, Italy

    and

    "Transylvania"
    cover track for the official "Iron Maiden" Tribute CD
    1997 Dwell Records

    I only have their first 2 albums, of which I like "The Sun Of Tiphareth" (that's their 2nd) the most. They now play some retro-Black thrash, but then they had much more melody and variation in their music.

    "The Sun Of Tiphareth" is a great occult Death/Black metal album with lots of variation and great atmosphere, it deals with Ancient Sumerian/ Irish mythology. On this album they also use keyboards and female vocals to a great effect, just listen to the opening 11-minute epic "Apzu", superb track! I actually like the vocals quite much on that album, nice and dirty, he does some great King Diamond screams here and there too, great! :headbang: I recommend this album to anyone.

    By the way, I don't think they sound like Darkthrone at all... There's much more "music" to Absu than Darkthrone.

    Thanks, Mad!

    I think I will have to give them a try, I found some more samples at anus.com and realized I should have looked there first anyway :D

    @Mad, if you can maybe send a few full songs to me at Shin0gu@c4.com ? (got 10MB there, 128Mbps is good enough for me.)

    Now of course I need to find out where I can order them here in Sweden (Swedrock.se has them, but I haven't recieved my last order yet, so I am not so sure if they are ok or not).

    Try downloading the song Pillars of Mercy, it's off Tara. It has the best intro ever!

    I agree with MadTinus. Not much comparison between Absu and Darkthrone. I have Tara, and its a vigorous retro-thrash performance, quite technical, snarling vocals, great compositional skills, and fantastic drumming by Proscriptor (who was one of the three finalists for the Slayer drum position, btw). I'm not familiar with the band's previous albums, but there seems to be a general consensus that Tara is the band's best to date.

    I believe that the band has a new album out soon. It's being handled in North America by Olympic Records.

    @Mad
    Sure, thanks, I did find some other songs on their official site, (thanks Mousewings :) ) but I only had time to DL 2 of them and didn't have time to listen to them.

    I think all their albums are from Osmose except the first one, which kinda sucks since they add that faggety copy protection shit to all their CDs now, can't listen to them on the computer, which bites, since thats where my better sound system will be.

    I saw them live weekend before last and I thought they were amazing!

    To my ears, Proscriptors vocals are nothing short of complete perfection, as he approaches them primarily from the percussive standpoint. I don't like singers who sing AT ALL, and feel vocal lines in this type of metal should merely provide percussive augmentation. His do -- and smashingly I might add!

    Great band!
