Leviathan and Blood Mountain are my favorite Mastodon albums. And www.metal-archives.com is the site for all metal reviews.

I purchased Remission, Leviathan, and Blood Mountain, all right around the time they came out. I think all are worthy albums, but Leviathan is the best by quite a bit.

Remission is easily better than Leviathan, will never understand how people think otherwise.

Leviathan may be the best piece to start with

Their older stuff tends to be less progressive. From the stuff I've heard I'd say Blood Mountain. It has aggression but just enough progression to keep the songs interesting.

Everything is good, but I wouldn't say any of it is great.

I agree. I never understood the hype.

    Listen to Taake.

Crack the Skye is fantastic. Everything up to but not including Blood Mountain sounds like they were trying to break their instruments.

I like the newest one, but I dont love it like I wish I did...

Taake is pretty unremarkable outside of their first album.

But you're really going to say that this sounds like they're 'trying to break their instruments'?

It is all just some solid, aggressive sorta sludge. No bullshit mostly.

Remission and Leviathan are great albums, really.

I'd start with Leviathan (the one that made me a fan of the band). If you enjoy these, get Blood Mountain and the couple last releases. They're interesting in my opinion.
