Did anything worthwhile come from the grunge scene? If so, recommendations will kindly be received. (Unless you're from Texas and not named J.) Pearl Jam's "Ten" is decent, but not what I'm looking for. I'm searching for some really mellow, depressive, rock, that only Layne's pipes seem able to achieve. Above may be the greatest rock album of the 1990's. Pass that spoon, it's time to nod.
The obvious: Nirvana (get the image of MTV and "Smells Like Teen Spirit" out of your mind, In Utero is freaking awesome), Soundgarden The cult: Temple of the Dog - Temple of the Dog The not so obvious: Paw - Dragline
Familiar with TotD, decent, but not what I'm looking for. TotD isn't anywhere near the quality of AIC/Mad Season. It's like comparing Susperia to Neurotica, child puhleeze. The best thing by Nirvana was load, cock, pull. A travesty to my senses. Jason, any samples of Paw? I could probably do a search on youtube, but I prefer being catered to. The only STP I want to know is the air filter.
Everyone tells me I should hear the early Mudhoney stuff. I've never really thought of Dinosaur Jr. as a grunge band but now that you mention it, yeah, the label sort of applies. Even with the black metal scream that starts out "Little Fury Things."
I've been told by a fan of AIC that their leader's solo project is cool. Jerry Cantrell - Degradation Trip edit: uploaded one song for you to check out http://www.sendspace.com/file/tqc58a
I have to agree with the Dark One. Paw's Dragline is fantastic. Kick ass American rock n roll. The follow-up to it wasn't a keeper, but I still listen to Dragline from time to time.
I'm not sure I get the analogy, but Temple of the Dog is one of the best discs of all time. Top 25 fo sho. Zod
Speaking of Mad Season, an irish band, personal favorite, named Wishbone covered 'I don't Know Anything' as a studio demo for their 2009 album, check it out, I think its really good! http://www.4shared.com/file/1333094...w_Anything__Mad_Season_Cover_-_Wishbone_.html www.myspace.com/wishboneband
Tad. edit: I previously mentioned they were from Boise. This is not true. Only Tad Doyle himself is from Boise. Carry on.
