    Children Of Bodom's first album.
Alexi just yelled random stuff into the microphone when recording (except for the last song).

"While cutting their shadows, kill them into the dark trough
Black is all the way, furious never-ending darkness show
Only way could be hard in their small and human nation
I kill the first man, getting by death, we are God, through death"

    Read all the lyrics here.

Early Dream Theater (I&W and Awake) have pretty good lyrics methinks. After that it's cheese though

    Deicide and Six Feet Under

Chimaira are not musically bad for a nu-metal band.

Chimaira have some decent guitar stuff on The Impossibility of Reason actually. Too bad the vocalist puts me to sleep

Chimaira has some decent songs musically on their 1st two albums. But when all you do is write songs about hating everything and telling everyone to fuck off, you should expect a fanbase primarily composed of middle schoolers. I seriously believe a 13 year old girl filled with teenage angst wrote all their lyrics. I stopped listening after their 2nd album so I can't speak for the rest of it but it was enough to turn me off for good.
Unfortunately I have to attend their headlining concert in order to see Kataklysm play in a week....

"Visions of the promised land, I close my eyes and angels die
No man alive can stop the bleed, and now I hear the voice of failure"

Novembers Doom. Why does Paul Kuhr write so sucky lyrics album after album? The great music they make doesn't deserve this. Oh yeah and Ayreon is a definite sucker. And one of my all time favorite bands, Novembre, makes terrible stuff sometimes although most of the lyrics can be tolerated.

"Drops of slime big as pies
stain every single day of your saint's life
consecution of all the sin you've been put inside,
    my beautiful star"

Drops of slime big as pies?! What has Carmelo been smoking.

Seriously metal is sometimes all about cheese. You get cheesy bm, dm, and certainly cheesy power metal and goth metal. So?
And of course is metalcore usually filled with angst. And why is that? Because it sells. And why does it sell? Because plenty can identify with that, even if they are only in middle school.

Complaining about this is almost like complaining about war in the news methinks.

What do you mean cheese, they write very well thought-out lyrics from personal experiences. Especially on the later albums (Six Degrees OIT, Train of Thought and the last one).

I agree the music/vocals can be cheesy sometimes though.

I find ToT kinda angsty actually. I do agree that DT have no place in this thread though. There's too many Black Metal and Power Metal bands for them to even be close

old defleshed lyrics before they fully grasped english are by far the stupidest and funniest i've ever seen.
    here's an example:

    Many Mangled Maggots

    [music & lyrics c by DEFLESHED 1993]

Does leaves ever cry? Not if they are black
Does birds ever fall in love? Can the air smell the flowers?
What if the sun won't rise...the last one to notice must be the worms
    And where is Marilyn?
    Won't a cat cry until I puncture the eyes with a tooth-pick
I've tried to eat rocks but they have no taste, it was just a waste
Do maggots steal the flesh of a corpse, or do they deserve it?
Africans squeeze maggots out their skin to eat the good phlegm
I can't stop wondering why they bother to save the worm-skin
Flies use to gather among laying bodies
How many maggots can a dead body produce?
Why are so many blacks starving when they can eat their friends' inhabitants?
Maybe trees hate music in fear of being cut to a flute
Can I pick the red out a rubin to wear it?

    speaking of green carnation:

maybe we should also rise a "misheard lyrics" thread

    as in green carnation's

    "I made it
    "Through the oak
    "Into a brand new life
