The Sham Mirrors, and while it doesn't have the best guitar playing in the world, that is hardly the decisive factor in assessing its worth...at times, despite the often disharmonic nature of the music, it sounds like its being played on one strange instrument...
Everyone who hasn't already should hear AD ASTRA off LMI and be stunned of Arcturus' brilliance. Thank me later.
Alone is the best conversion made out of a poem Only Garm and Sverd could come up with that and if you deny this fact I shall have to sodomize you
The one that doesn't suck ... oh wait, there isn't one. Arcturus is, by far, the WORST metal band I've ever heard! Aside from two songs, one I actually like and the other is just halfway-decent, everything else makes me want to puke. Arcturus = uke:
You obviously haven't heard Soilwork. LMI quite frankly makes The Sham Mirrors look silly. LMI>Aspera>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Sham Mirrors
The last 6 posts were all direct replies to Belial. If he wasn't trolling on purpose, it was still a great inadvertent troll.
Sham Mirrors, hands down. That album is a masterpiece. It may not be Arcturus' most experimental album, but it easily their most solid and most confident sounding. Half the time, they sound like they don't know what they're doing on LMI. LMI makes the sham mirrors look silly? LMI IS both silly and goofy, and not in a good way. Too much damn cheese for my liking, and though Simen's vocals are good, Garm's are embarrassing. The Sham Mirrors appears mature and sophisticated in comparison, and I can actually enjoy Garm's vocals instead of cringing upon hearing them. Ad Astra off LMI is the best song that Arcturus have ever made, and it would be my favorite song ever if Garm didn't ruin the latter half. Otherwise, the worst song on the Sham Mirrors (Ad Absurdum), while still good, is of the same quality of the rest of the LMI songs. Arcturus' LMI, Emperor's In the Nightside Eclipse, and Strapping Young Lad's City tie for the most overrated extreme metal albums.
