Some metal bands' lyrics are horrendously cheesey and are just a waste of time to even try to pick out. Personally, I think the lyrical value is almost that of the music's... and some bands prove that, and others dont.

What bands do you think have the best lyrics and the Worst lyrics?

    Your imagination, of course!
great lyrics: Opeth, Soilwork, Scar Symmetry, Tool (who i consider somewhat metal), Meshuggah, Lamb of God (sometimes)

bad lyrics: Cradle of Filth, Anal Cunt, Cannibal Corpse, DevilDriver, Metallica (i love them but they have simple lyrics...or at least after selling out)

when it comes to metal, i think any lyrics dealing with norse mythology or ancient history are pretty good. Behemoth-Demigod, anything by Nile, some Amon Amarth, etc. some other good ones are Vital Remains-Dechristianize, Dimmu Borgir-Enthroned Darkness Triumphant and everything from Death, really symbolic

some bad ones are some Children of Bodom, especially their last 2 records. Cannibal Corpse can get a little ridiculous using words that are straight out of a medical dictionary, some arch enemy lyrics are boring, Cradle of Filth's old lyrics are good, but get a bit monotonous

hm, I really like lyrics that have a meaning (or even more than one meaning), that you can actually think about and that you can hear the writer has put some thought into them.

I really dislike plain, stupid (sorry, but thats what I think about most of those) gore-"lyrics". also, a lot of those gore-vocalists can hardly be understood at all when growling which for me is a sign of a bad vocalist (whats the point of doing vocals when noone can understand what you're saying???)

well you can you use pipes to make cool noises like inward growls and such, but a sign of a good growler is one that can be understood.

shure I can do weird noises or screams or whatnot, but I dont need a text for this ;)

Thidrek: I'm not that much experienced with listening to opera, but I'd guess, that the BEST ones are those who can combine a wide range and really accurate and "strong" singing with actually being understandable

for me, same thing goes for extreme-vocalists: I regard those the best that sound really extreme, have a sound of their own AND are understandable
I mean: pretty much anyone can do understandable vocals and sound like shit and and pretty much anyone also can sound very extreme without being understandable
