I've been surfing through miscellaneous music videos and audio clips tonight, and it's got me thinking about what the best metal albums are from the last ten years. I'm curious to know what you guys think and what your personal choices are. So for fun and friendly debate, post your picks. Here's mine.... I find it interesting that in one of the other threads about Opeth, many people talk about which albums they like least from them, and many people have said that album "X" is better than album "Y", yet not one time did anyone seem to mention "Blackwater Park" (my personal favorite from them), yet that album seems to show up quite a bit here....just saying *shrugs* 10 years? Wow, 10 years ago I was listening to mostly thrash metal (Cannibal Corpse, Kataklysm, etc..), now, I am listening mostly goth and avant-garde metal (as far as metal music, but opera is something that has gained much attention from me lately, am I getting old? or just wiser..haha) So I look back at albums that 10 years ago I thought were great, now not so much...but I will agree with just about everything that Larry listed, except Lamb of God, as for I just never really liked anything from them, and everthing from Death was just great...anyways
Hmm, 10 years, that's a hard one, seeing as anything after 86 feels like 10 years, but in fact is over 20 lol. I'll have to think about this one!
Yeah I know the feeling. But honestly I think it's almost too easy (for me at least) to list my favorite albums that came between 1986 and 1996, there we so many classics and that was sort of "my era" of metal. I am finding it alot harder to come up with favorites from the past ten years. I mean I've heard plenty of good metal during that time, but absolute "Best" cds is tougher, as I'm much more picky these days about what really appeals to me.
It is easier for me. I was very close minded when I was younger. In the mid to late 80's, if it wasn't thrash or crossover, I wasn't interested. As I have gotten older, I have immensely expanded my horizons, and can appreciate many different genres of metal. I mean how many of you last year purchased BOTH the new HammerFall and Katatonia CDs?
