yeah, that movie is awesome
watching Memento for the first time, at 2 AM...that's a mindfuck.
The ultimate mind-fuck film is Last year at Marienbad (L'année dernière à Marienbad), a French film from 1961. This is one of the most creative and memorable films I´ve ever seen. The film is at the same time visually stunning, disturbing, challenging but enjoyable at the same time.
Other good films worth mentioning in that context are:
Daisies (Sedmikrásky, 1966). A Czech film, which is one of the most playful and entertaining films I´ve ever seen.
The Phantom of Liberty (Le fantôme de la liberté, 1974)
The Exterminating Angel (El ángel exterminador, 1962)
Week End (1967)
El Topo (1970)
In the Realm of the Senses (1976). An infamous Japanese masterpiece.
Excellent movie! Alain Resnais did a great job with 'Last year at Marienbad' and 'Hiroshima, mon amour'.
I'm going to go with eraserhead.. or also that one where god disembowels himself in a woodshed
Memento is pretty alright in the mindfuck department.
Morbides mentioned Delicatessen.
The French rule in making mindfucks.
Most recent mindfuck is Shutter Island. I love that movie.
The Wall, Arlington Road, Pi, The Game, Twelve Monkeys, Jacob's Ladder.
Quite different but still mindfucks; The Crying Game, Being John Malcovic, The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus, The City of Lost Children (La Cité des Enfants Perdus).
These also had me reeling at the end:
Men who stare at goats
The Fountain (which fucked me up for weeeeks)
noticing a trend here, lol
^agreed! The Fountain was crazy.. I almost had to turn it off I was feeling so weird. awesome movie!
I have two...
Antichrist (beautiful, fucked up, insane.. must see!)
The Shape of Things
I haven't posted in a looooong time... I'm sure no one remembers me, but hi!!! -Jayme
Ah! I was just told about this one the other night, and it (specifically the end) sounded INTENSE. I'd love to see it.
Tell me your thoughts?
You have to see it! And while you're at watch it back to back with Antichrist!
And then no one gets laid!
Absolutely brilliant film. I won't tell you anything about it though. Just see it.
lots of good ones listed.
"Usual Suspects" is a great one too. One of Kevin Spaceys best pieces of work.
Yeah some people i know i gace emm...a tip so its the pub to tellme if they got spaced out on it.
This thread inspired me to gather all of my younger friends together and watch it last night. They all gave it high ratings
Every time I watch it, I notice more clues..
Watched Mr. Nobody recently, it was suprisingly good and I recommend it. I thought it was going to be really pretentiousy but it took me by suprise.
Jacob's Ladder is tame.
i especially loved your elaboration on why, it all makes sense now
