Best or favorite metal guitar tones?

    Searched for a similar thread but didn't see one; what tones do you guys find crushing or tight and awesome?

    List some up with the rigs that conjured said tones; here's a few I dig

    Meshuggah - destroy erase - ibanez 7 strings boosted into Mesa Dual Rectifier into Marshall 4x12 - miced with Nuemann Tlm 103

    Benea Reach - Possession - deutschenberg guitars into 5150 and Framus Dragon. Former used a 5150 can and latter used a framus cobra cab ; miced with 57/414 combo

    The Famine - the Raven and the Reaping - custom 7 string into Bogner Uberschall rig; not sure on mics

    Iced Earth's Horror Show. End of thread.

    The downside is that the bulk of Schaffer's tone comes from his Larry amps, which are about a billion dollars each. You can get pretty close with a boosted JCM or a Bogner into a 1960 cab.
