    Press Release: For immediate announcement
    Big God’s Metal Massacre 02
April 27 2002, The HiFi Bar, Melbourne

Melbourne’s metal music scene will be alive and kicking as the details of the second annual Big God’s Metal Massacre were announced today.

“After a successful first year, we’re thrilled to be able to put this event on again – bigger and better ” organisers said.

The event will take place on Saturday, April 27 at the HiFi Bar in Swanston St and will feature some of Australia’s most unique and up-coming metal acts; including special guests - members of Vanishing Point “unplugged”. The guys have only just recently returned from a highly successful European tour with Gamma Ray and Sonata Arctica.

The gig was first held in March 2001 after well-known Melbourne metal enthusiast, Yani ‘Big God’ Pavlis died suddenly from a major heart attack, aged 23. His condition, Sudden Arrhythmia Death Syndrome (SADS), was undiagnosed. Because of its difficulty to diagnose, is not usually detected in time.

S.A.D.S. is relatively unknown in Australia, and “Big God’s” intends on being an important awareness raising event in relation to this life-threatening disease. The exact numbers of annual S.A.D.S. deaths in this country are as yet unknown, but estimated in the thousands. Generally, individuals with this condition are not diagnosed until after death - a death that usually comes at a tragically young age, in late childhood to early adulthood.

“The gig is about raising funds and awareness for S.A.D.S. research the best way we know how, and I’m sure Yani would have approved” said the organisers. “It was heart-breaking to watch a friend die this way and more research is needed to know more of the disorder in future… Everyone knows Melbourne is the best place for live Australian heavy-metal and the support from people within the industry has been fantastic.”

Yani’s death touched many in the community. He was heavily involved in the local music industry, and was even the operator of the official Fear Factory website, one of the most prominent American metal acts in recent years. “It was moving to see that they dedicated their last album to him, and we hope that his memory will live on in Big God’s Metal Massacre by helping others that may have Long QT syndrome, and not know it, to be diagnosed in time.”

This years line-up includes HELLSPAWN, CHALICE (South Australia), INFERNAL METHOD (Sydney), ALARUM, ENTER VI (Sydney), ENTER TWILIGHT, SENSE OF PURPOSE, RESISTICA and Evasive. Plus special guests – members of VANISHING POINT ‘unplugged’

The event will kick off at 3pm and there will be heaps of give-aways, door prizes and raffles, so no doubt this will be a highly entertaining event! Tickets will be $15, and are only available on the door, so be early for what will be one heavy night to remember!
