That wasn't bad, but lacked anything to set it apart from any other band in the genre. Meh.

Dying to remember the name of a beautiful black metal band from France I know for a fact is popular on this forum. I could have sworn it was Trist, but then of course theres no French Trist and I already know of the German and Czech bands...off to scourge the rec forum to see if I can spot a familiar name.

french, extremely beautiful, somewhat "ambient", "atmospheric", "depressive"

No, not so obvious, and much more "black metal" than Alcest. I'm sure I'll find it by the end of the day.

anyway, a similar band to the one I'm dying to remember: fucking killer album

Is there anything else by this band? and EP's or other releases of any kind? Does anyone know of future releases?

    ^ Gris...Fucking awesome.

They have another album, Neurasthenie which I believe was relased before II etait une foret, but not as good imo.

The other band your trying to think of is it a similar style? A few that I can think of from France are Mutiilation and Mortifera...Either of those ring a bell?

    neither...huh

Edit- neither are the band I'm thinking of although I know them both.

I want to like this, but something about it feels polished and fake to me. illegitimate or something.

    Edit2-actually i lied. i don't even want to like it. it's gay.

If they are indeed french, that leaves not so many options. Peste Noire would be my guess - or Pensees Nocturnes as mentioned earlier. If you're just talking about a french name, then it could be Sombres Forets, Monarque, Forteresse, Paysage d'Hiver, Misere Luminis.

This thread has gotten far too low on the page so let's take a moment to appreciate how awesome this album will always be.

I'm late to the party but I just wanted to throw in my support and praise of Gris and Kvist. Checking out Teen Cthulu in a minute, sounds like something right up my alley.
