I'm wondering: Does a Christian really need to be worried about what they listen to like blind guardian? I am so torn I don't really know what's ok to listen to anymore.

There's a thread dealing with that same topic, but it's a tad cluttered and not how I imagined it would turn out.

I remember reading an interview with Hansi Kursch (vocalist of BG) and he said he believes in God, but he doesn't condone some of the actions the Church/religion does. I'd say he's a run of the mill guy with a place for God and morality in his heart, but he believes organised religion is more preach than practice. Honestly...if you're not bothered with Dragonforce's lyrics (assuming from your picture) you really shouldn't be bothered with Blind Guardian. If anything Dragonforce's life style speaks of sin, just look at their days as Demoniac for instance.

In truth, neither Dragonforce nor Blind Guardian are bands you should fear if you're worried about damnation. Their lyrics are mostly fluff with a positive message somewhere in the background. If you were to get to know the band you'd probably learn they're just regular guys with normal lives.

    Just my two cents.

Blind Guardian is definitely not a band you should worry about negatively associating with your listening experience - an extremely positive band that plays on works of fiction and fantasy. A lot of positive themes throughout their entire discography. It'd be no worse than watching Lord of the Rings or Star Wars...unless you think that's bad then disregard that analogy.

I agree. I remember reading an interview somewhere that Hansi called himself a "critical Christian". Like Aleth said, most of the songs that are about religion he has are dealing with the problems in the church as opposed to problems with theology.
So, definetly not the worst music you could be listening to. But as always, make sure you understand the positions put forth.
Also, lots of Christian music (or music made by Christians) is made to make you think. Just because you question your faith or aspects of it from time to time doesnt mean you lack it.

Listen to the music you like, regardless of whatever you think is bad about it. If a god that would damn people for their music taste exists, that's not a god who deserves to dictate anything about life. Besides, Blind Guardian isn't even anti Christian. They're just amazing and deserve to be heard no matter what inhibitions anyone has.

I'd echo most of the comments already made. I've never found any problems with BG content-wise from a Christian perspective.

Also, they are amazing! I have a feeling that Theocracy's multi-layered choral vocals wouldn't exist without BG doing it first.

I think this analysis sums it up nicely.

Enjoying fantasy is not a sin as far as I know.
