CANDLEMASS - DEATH THY LOVER EP DETAILS REVEALED

"...Candlemass are back and celebrating 30 years of doom with a brand new EP, the special anniversary release named Death Thy Lover. The EP will be released on June 3rd and features four studio tracks with Mats Levén on vocals. The band recently announced that Levén, who’s a longtime friend of the band, is now the permanent singer for the Swedish doom metal squad...."

Gone are the good days of the exceptional Vocals in Candlemass...........Based upon that recent clip, that vocalist is a bad match for the band. Nothing about his voice at all screams Doom...........I

I do like Mats Leven's voice, and I think he did a good job fronting Candlemass when I saw them at Maryland Deathfest a few years ago. But I have to agree that the new song doesn't quite sound like doom metal to my ears. It sounds a bit like a mid-paced power metal song. Not bad, but I wouldn't immediately think it's a Candlemass song if I didn't already know it was.

Awesome. It's doomy in the Dio era Sabbath/Heaven And Hell kind of way. Definitely heavy, and I think Mats is a great fit in this band. He kicked ass with Leif Edling in Krux...I expect more of the same here.

Candlemass played the Rock Hard festival this summer. I like it.

I'll admit I haven't given these guys a fair shake over the years, I just assumed they were noisy cookie monster band. May have to check out more...
