I'm wondering if that song is about/has to do with street lighting??

i don't think it has, specifically, as i'm convinced the light it refers to is a rather broader concept. however, it seems to me it might involve city lights in general (lights created by man) so i guess street illumination can be a part of it too.

I'm not a technology expert or anything but I think Cathode Ray Sunshine comes from the computer.. uh.. Cathode Ray tubes.. that's what produces the light.. or whatever. I sound knowledgeable, eh?

a CRT (cathode ray tube) is the big glass vacuum tube in your average monitor or television which projects the image on the front screen. that's also why monitors with the CRT technology are so large and heavy.

As far as what the song is about, I once read an interview with Stanne wherein he claimed that one of his main current influences was "the American writer Wallace." I don't know any American writers named Wallace aside from the post-postmodern wunderkind David Foster Wallace. If this indeed is the Wallace to whom Stanne was referring, then it would seem to be no coincidence that the theme of Cathode Ray Sunshine fits precisely with the theme of Wallace's masterwork "Infinite Jest."

In case anyone else is interested in checking my hypothesis, be advised that the novel is 1100 pages. Or else you could just take my word for it.

@rahvin: haha, no problem. Also, I didn't mean to imply that the book is not worth whatever time might be spent in its 1100 pages. It's a great book! :D

I really hope Mikael reads this thread and either confirms or denies my theory. I'm such a huge Wallace fan, and it's been driving me nuts ever since I read that interview. To think that I might share my favorite writer with my favorite musician . . . well that would just be too cool.

Meet the LED, light emitting diode. The long leg there is the cathode; that's the one you connect to + and the short leg would be the anod, connected to -. The Cathode is the light emitting part, or actually, there's a thin thread between the cathode and anod, blablabla. Works sort of like a light bulb.

I'd say that the song is all about that, the traumatic memories from reading electronics in school or just about reaaally reaaally strong LEDs.
