I thought the sound was absolutely perfect for most of the fest (Thursday not so much until a couple songs into VP's set). I had regular foam plugs and just had them barely wedged in my ear just to attenuate the volume where I was closer to a speaker.

The lineup was amazing. I wish I had infinite energy and could have watched every single song, but I didn't, so I paced myself and limited my drinking (somewhat :D) My primary jeer is somewhat related to this... allergies were killing me the whole weekend, which definitely reduced my energy levels.

The band members, as usual, were wonderfully friendly and it was great seeing them just hanging out like regular folk while still allowing us to shower our praise on them.

More cheers: thanks to everyone for putting up with me being a lunatic, especially during Therion's set (if you thought I was wild then, you should have seen me with full energy and a setlist that brought even more out of me) at their NYC show when they toured!

It was great to see the venue more than 50% full for the first bands of the night. Really says something about the promoter, the bands, and the attendees when that happens so early. On a related note, I see next year being a repeat of this year as far as lineup is concerned. Kudos to Glenn!

So many friends, old and new, great hanging out with all of you. I hope to see each and every one next year!

A final jeer: Crappy sidewalk on the way to the Artmore. At least I didn't get blasted so I could navigate the mess. Why did they have to schedule this for the three highest-traffic days that sidewalk will get in a year?!

I highly recommend folks with allergies check our indexes starting a month ahead of time. If the pollen counts are going up, please start taking your allergy meds if you have allergies. Remember, we are a tree city and I don't mean that we have only one, we have tons of them and they all start ejaculating about the same time.

I have the marvelous distinction of having terrible allergies, but not to any trees or plants. DUST AND MOLD and those evils are EVERYWHERE. And they love to congregate and spread in air conditioning. My only jeer so far, and it's just a personal sulk, is that the air conditioners always seem to blow right on my face in bed in the Artmore. The voice loss is not just due to being gabby.

If I had a bigger room, I'd invite you to room with the Frenchies, Amanda, and me. We turned the A/C off this year and just opened the window during the day.

Voyager ruled my world this weekend, but then again I am biased since I sponsored them. Once Voyager kicked my ass, everything else was gravy. The only thing that sucked is that I missed Labyrinth due to the long wait at the Vortex for dinner. C'est Le Vie. Glenn, you are the greatest!!!

Yep, I would have laid down some serious cash for a ProgPower Snuggie on Thursday night.

But it *was* an improvement over last year, when it was absolutely sweltering.

Cheers: To the new lighting tech Lindsey. Two thumbs up! Well lit, nice scenes, and very moderate use of the smoke machine! No more Cheech and Chong effect. ;-).

Oh yeah, that was something else I was going to mention in the Cheers. For once, the friggan stage is not FLOODED with stage fog! With the lighting, I was actually able to wrangle out some pretty nice shots with my humble little Power Shot G3. Can't wait to see some of your pictures (I've not checked the picture thread yet).

Yeah, it was chilly, but holy f@ck I'd SO rather it be cool than hot at ProgPower!! Especially with all the sweaty gassy hairy dudes in sleeveless shirts who start to stink after 5 minutes :puke: Seriously, Glenn, that was heaven on earth! Thank you for that! Massively! \m/ It's way easier to warm up than cool off in a place like that.

    Cheers:

    - Every band I watched. Band of the fest goes to Therion; but While Heaven Wept, Ihsahn, Voyager, Forbidden, Haken, and Sanctuary were fucking elite.
    - Singers. This was the year of the vocalist as far as I'm concerned: who do you pick for best singer at the fest when you have performances like Tom's during the Evergrey acoustic set, and you get to see Ihsahn, Warrel Dane, Rain Irving, Rob Tiranti, Ross Jennings (Haken), Russ Anderson (Forbidden), and all the folks in Therion? I can't even pick the best singer this year much less the best band! There were some great voices during the karaoke also!
    - How well the signing sessions are run: they move fast, and you don't get the opportunity to do this at most shows or fests and I got a lot of stuff signed (including my Emperor cassette cover and my WHW vinyl)
    - Mike and the folks at Exploding Neds for having the coolest selections in the merch room. Only at his booth could I have bought amazing black, death, doom, industrial, power, and traditional heavy metal...and a fucking SKYCLAD shirt! Hell yeah!
    - Todd, Rick, Nathan, and all the guys who stick to the rail every year. Yeah, I know I get you guys to help save my spot so I can go do vain things like buy merch and get shit signed, but I'd do the same for you guys and having friends up there to rock out with and chat with during set changes is amazing.
    - Weather. 'Nuff said. Nice and cool, never hot. Amazing.
    - Rick Pierpont who was cool enough to single me out and get the security to hand me a Therion setlist. You rule, bro.
    - I'll also cheer the partying at the Artmore after each night. So cool to be able to hang out with everyone. Living so far away from home, I haven't felt like I was around family in a good little while.
    - Primordial playing next year. This is a cheer from the video announcement. These guys are far and away one of my favorite bands in metal and to see them and Agalloch (who are playing MDF) in one year will be something I will cherish forever. Anyone afraid of their intense sound and occasional harsh vocals will miss out on something special by sitting their set out.

I might save jeers for later. Maybe I'll jeer Epica as a headliner next year. I'm sorry, I don't think they deserve it and I would have rather seen another band headline...but such is life. I'll probably still watch their entire set and will still sing along to the songs I enjoy, but I'd be more excited over a different band. I guess I've grown out of the "female fronted atmospheric symphonic gothic" scene, so Amaranthe garners little interest for me; the appeal is the sexy singer and not the music and to me that's decidedly un-metal. But hey, you gotta sell tickets, and see my aforementioned comment about Primordial...next year will still be amazing. My allegiance to this festival will never waver despite my (petty and selfish) criticisms over lineups and whatnot.

(For the record, I'm up there with you, but still Epica has some really good musicians so they'll probably be very entertaining!)

I won't lie, there were several times throughout the fest I said out loud "man the lighting is great, I can't wait to see what Allen comes away with.

Yeah. I was even able to get away with wearing my Evergrey longsleeve on Saturday with no problems.

I was quite comfortable in the venue. I'm a fan of a nice chill. I'm not a fan of heat and humidity. Sweating by virtue of just standing around is lame. If I didn't earn the sweat, I don't want it! So add one more cheer to the ambient temp in Center Stage.

Wow Where to begin! Finally on my computer (not my tablet) so this will work better.

    CHEERS:

To Glenn and Jen, thank you, you are both amazing and spend tireless hours bringing amazing music to all of us. You both could never be thanked enough for what you do.
The Crew: you are all awesome and F anyone who complains about how things are run and transitioning smoothly between bands. You do what you can with what youve got and you keep the chaos at bay. With out you god help us all...haha
The Crew at Vinyls, Centerstage, and Security: You all are always very courteous and helpful, and a cog in Glenns well oiled machine!
The Bands: AMAZING performances, not every band is in a genre I like but they all put on an amazing show ( I made sure I saw every one) on top of that they all were accessable and friendly wonderful to meet and hang out with, something that makes this fest so special. Where else can you meet your favorite band and get to hang out like old friends?! (another cheer to glenn for that) Thank you again you all make this fest what it is!
The Artmore: I know most of you probably have your qualms about them but they are not required to open their hotel to a bunch of metal heads for 3 days and they do a fantastic job making all of our stays as good as possible....they spent an afternoon putting up christmas lights to enhance the courtyard for us....and lets face it im sure we all dont keep tidy rooms while we are there....
To the fans this year: Thank you for not making Glenn regret his decision for letting those who wish to participate in moshing do so. Moshing is not my thing but from my vantage point everyone was extremely courteous and respectful (with exception to the guy in red, come on man! jeers to you:mad:).

    JEERS:

Anyone complaining about anything in regards to this fest ie (line ups, timing, etc.) This fest would not even be possible without the people who put in tireless hours to bring us amazing music. This is a labor of love and a gift and we should treat it as such! I can personaly say that I would not have learned or know of half these amazing bands if it werent for this fest and there have been a few times where I only knew one band announced but found new favorites once I got home and "studied up" for the next year. A lot of people take this fest for granted, shut it and see it for what it is, an amazing opportunity that we may otherwise not have!
The sidewalk construction, but cheers to it being awesome next year!
    Disrespecting Evergreys accustic set (chatykathys)

Thank you again Glenn and Jen without your vision and love for this music we would not have such a wonderful fest for all of us to make our metal pilgramage to every year! You are amazing people and deserve all the thanks in the world! Next years line up is going to slay!:kickass:

I don't have much basis for comparison since this was only my 2nd PP, but it seemed like the percentage of gracious, friendly bands was extremely high this year. Was this year something of an anomaly?
